Last night, 3 of our members took a drive to Marble Bar to assist the volunteers with a bushfire.

✅ HAZMAT Fire in SOUTH HEDLAND in the TOWN OF PORT HEDLAND is controlled and contained ✅

Please note this incident is now contained and controlled.

⚠ The HAZMAT Fire in SOUTH HEDLAND is now contained and under control. The rubbish fire at the South Hedland Landfill Facility is no longer resulting in potentially dangerous smoke. Smoke is still present in the vicinity of the premises.

- People should stay away from the area.
- People with medical concerns should contact their local doctor or call Health Direct on 1800 022 222.

For those heading north to Broome. Beware of the road closure.

🚧 ROAD CLOSURE UPDATE 🚧

Update time: 11:29 AM, 22 October 2023.

Great Northern Highway is currently open however may be closed at short notice due to fire behaviour.

The bushfire burning in the area is currenty burning on both sides of Great Northern Highway, 30 kilometres north of Sandfire Road House. It remains out of control and unpredictable.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area, reduce speed and drive carefully due to smoke. Road information may also be available from Main Roads WA by visiting the Main Roads Travel Map, calling 138 138 or by contacting your Local Government Authority.
