Next Monday we begin a week-long goat control program on authorised private properties and conservation reserves in areas of eastern and western Eyre Peninsula.

All landholders in or near these areas have been sent letters about the program, advising of the locations and likely helicopter action during this time.

🐐🐐Feral goat populations have increased in recent years, causing biodiversity impacts. Thanks to funding from the Landscape Priorities Fund, we are able to undertake this control program to help landholders in these hard to access areas.

ℹ️If you would like more information about this program, have recently sighted any feral goats or deer in the area, or would like to participate in future aerial operations please contact your nearest landscape office. We also encourage you to report feral goat or deer sightings on FeralScan.

Is there something you’ve been wanting to talk to us about? Pest plant and animal control, a water affecting activity permit or what community grants we have? We’ll be at the Eyre Peninsula Field Days in Cleve next week. Come see us in the Department of Primary Industries and Regions marquee.

🌿We’ll also have copies for sale ($45) of the field guide to native revegetation communities, plant species and environmental weeds of the EP - ‘Native Vegetation of the Eyre Peninsula’ - plus plenty of resources about our priority areas and even some activities for the kids.

Thinking of applying to be on our Board but not sure?

Current member, Sonya Coleman from Streaky Bay, says:

🗨️"To anyone doubting whether they are the “right fit”, I would say, if you care about the future of your area, you absolutely are fit for this! You don’t need to be a scientist or hold a degree in botany. Boards need diversity and practical experience.

"My main motivation to become a Landscape Board member was to be actively involved and to have some input to how we manage our delicate environment.”

Apply by August 16.

This year marks the 10th Anniversary of the Whyalla Saltpan Shorebird Survey.

We want to say a big thank you to all our volunteers and BirdLife Australia staff who have contributed over the years, sharing their knowledge and skills to complete these summer and winter shorebird counts 🙌

We would also like to thank our generous hosts who have supported these surveys - Kathy Belitz (BASF), Andrew Smoker (Pacific Salt/Olssons) and Onesteel.

📝 19 surveys completed since 2016
🔢 12 summer & 8 winter counts
🐦 32,594 birds counted (91 species)
👏 452 volunteer hours (17 volunteers)

ℹ In partnership with Birdlife Australia we undertake summer and winter shorebird surveys, as well as Biennial Hooded Plover counts, across the entire region. These surveys contribute to a National Database used to monitor long and short-term population trends which helps to aid species management and conservation.

📸These photos are from this year’s Whyalla Saltpans winter shorebird survey. Thanks to our amazing volunteers plus Jasmin Rooks from BirdLife Australia who took part in our winter counts this year.

Looking to establish a new dam on your property?

1️⃣Apply for a water affecting activity permit at least two months before you want to start the works.

ℹ If you’re on lower Eyre Peninsula, an allowable dam volume also needs to be considered. These are dependent on which priority catchment the property sits within and helps to ensure all landholders have fair and equitable opportunity to capture and store surface water in dams on their properties.

📞Get in touch with your local landscape board office to find out more and see comments for links.
