Jez Sundqvist was around 12 when he first discovered Pokémon.

Now a father himself, Jez's love for the cultural phenomenon has been further sparked by getting to share it with his 11-year-son.

As Pokémon celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, Jez isn't the only longtime fan passing his childhood hobby onto the next generation.

He said bonding with his son feels like a full-circle moment.

"It probably does make me a bit sentimental thinking about it."

Three decades after the franchise that coined the phrase "Gotta catch 'em all!" was first released, parents are sharing their love of the franchise with their children.

Three humpback whales delighted locals at the Port Lincoln wharf yesterday afternoon. 🐋

While Boston Bay quite often has a southern right whale or two come through during winter, humpbacks are a bit more unusual.

However they are becoming more frequent in South Australian waters as the population off the eastern states booms.

The species was almost hunted to extinction by the 1960s, but have bounced back to more than pre-whaling days, an estimated 50,000 in 2024.

Have you seen any whales lately?

Thanks for sharing Kristina Toth and Melinda Coad! 📸

How joyous do these Sleaford Bay dolphins look?🐬

This is giving us wild Wednesday vibes.

Taia Richardson was out looking for whales recently and captured this great photo of some smaller mammals.

Whale watchers have been scouring the horizon for signs of migrating southern right whales which frequent South Australian waters between June and October each year.

Have you seen any whales yet?

What’s the weather like where you are today?

Water could be seen spilling onto the footpath at the Port Lincoln foreshore this afternoon, with a high tide recording 1.85 metres at 2:05 PM according to the Bureau of Meteorology.

A coastal hazard warning for abnormally high tides is also in effect for the Lower and Eastern Eyre Peninsulas.

The State Emergency Service says high tides are dangerous to swimmers, surfers and rock fishers and advises to stay away from coastal areas until conditions subside.

Have you seen Nauo Elder Jason Ramp busking on the streets of Port Lincoln before?

Uncle Jason came in with his didgeridoo this morning, playing and speaking about Reconciliation Week for On Eyre Sessions.

He's played the instrument for nearly 30 years and started practicing “on the sly” as a kid in Alice Springs.

A frequent busker in Port Lincoln, he said he’s received nothing but “incredible feedback” from the community who often sit down for conversations.

“I spend a lot of the time just talking as well. I just spread the word and culture," he said.

Uncle Jason said it’s been heartening this week to see how young people embrace Aboriginal culture around Eyre Peninsula and that it’s a good sign for hope into the future.

An oceanographer whose modelling predicted the movement of the harmful algal bloom through Gulf St Vincent last year expects the bloom to move through the Spencer Gulf over the next few months.

Hundreds of dead fish on the beach this week have increased concerns for citizen scientist Wendy Lambert, who has been regularly sampling water.

Modelling predicts that the algal bloom that has plagued South Australia's coastlines since March 2025 will be moving further through the Spencer Gulf in the next few months.

Two fire crews have been called to a truck blaze on the Tod Highway this morning.

Ted, a passing motorist from Port Lincoln, was at the scene and warned drivers to take caution when travelling in between Cummins and Edillilie.

"The driver of the main truck has now managed to disengage that and move forward," he told ABC Eyre Peninsula Radio.

The Australian government has paid Rex Airlines' debts to regional councils across the country to the tune of $4.8 million.

Ceduna Airport on South Australia's far west coast was owed $78,699. Council Chief executive Ben Taylor said that number was much higher in the months before Rex went under in 2024.

Council-owned airports have been bailed out by the federal government to the tune of $4.8 million, $2 million of which was for NSW alone.
