On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, the guns fell silent on the Western Front in 1918, ending World War I.

Today, it is a day to remember the sacrifice of Australians in all wars and armed conflicts.

"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning. We will remember them."

We are recruiting!

Ever considered becoming a firefighter? If so, Fire + Rescue Port Macquarie are now accepting applications for on-call fire fighters.

What is an β€˜on-call’ firefighter I hear you ask…

Fire + Rescue NSW on-call (or retained) firefighters are community members with other jobs who are on standby to respond to local emergencies like fires, rescues, and hazmat incidents. They are paid a monthly retainer and an hourly rate when responding, attending training, or doing other duties. To be eligible, you must live and / or work within a reasonable distance of a fire station to ensure a prompt response.

Further information is available here:

https://careers.fire.nsw.gov.au/on-call-firefighting

If you’d like more information, we’re holding a face to face information session at the station, (5 Central Road, Port Macquarie) at 6pm on Wednesday the 5th of November.

Applications close on Friday the 7th of November.

Today, we said goodbye to a team mate and a friend.

On Call Fire Fighter, Allen McLean (Service No. 520822) started in the brigade on the 15th of February 2005 at Inverell station, where he spent 2 years and 9 months before transferring to Port Macquarie station on the 1st of December 2007.

Allen was a senior member at our station for 17 years 9 months 27 days with his last official day of service being Saturday the 27th of September 2025.

In total, Allen dedicated 20 years, 7 months and 13 days to the brigade and to his community.

Besides being a very dedicated fire fighter, a valued member of the team, a mentor to junior and recruit firefighters, Allen was a family man, and will be dearly missed by everyone who had the privilege of working with, or knowing him.

Today we say thank you to Allen for his selfless service and courage. You made a profound impact on the lives of those around you and you will be missed.
