🌟 Celebrating Our First Responders 🌟

This week we had a small visit from Pat Conaghan MP who popped in to celebrate and thank the NSW SES Port Macquarie Unit for their commitment to being one of many agencies who are first responders within the Port Macquarie Hastings Community.

The unit is made up of over 80 volunteers from varying age groups and walks of life bringing a wealth of experience and knowledge when it comes to responding to Emergency events.

We thank Pat Conaghan for the visit and the kind words shared with us all.

🐴 Did you know we perform Large Animal Rescues? 🐮

Many know us for assisting communities during Flood, Storm and Tsunamis. You may also know we perform rescues during Road Crash or Industrial and Domestic incidents. Another one of the many rescues we need to keep on top of are proper rescue techniques for large animals such as horses and cows.

Here our members are refreshing their skills in the art of large animal rescue, understanding animal behaviours, how to humanly treat animals and what equipment is available for recovery. Various equipment include glides, straps, eBurn bar and some additional equipment we are trying out.

🌟 Zone Disaster Rescue Challenge 2026 Winners 🌟

With determination and eagerness, a few of our unit members just returned from a weekend of friendly competition against other units from across the NSW SES Northern Zone. We are pleased to report that we took out first place at the competition which enables the team to progress through to the NSW SES State Disaster Rescue Challenge later in the year. State is where the best SES Zone teams come together and battle it out for one spot to represent NSW SES at a National level.

An amazing weekend of learning, team building, collaborating and sharing.

We would like to congratulate all other participating units and also say a huge thanks to all the support teams who help make such a great learning event possible.

A special thanks to NSW SES - Gosford Unit on their runner's up position. You definately kept the Port Macquarie team on their toes. 😅 A huge congrats to Phil on title of best Team Leader of the event.

To the NSW SES Wyong Unit, we applaude your strength to still be at the competition despite recent events. 💪

Thank you again NSW SES for this great event and we accept the challenge to represent Northern Zone at the next State Rescue Competition.

🌧️🌧️ It's going to be a wet few days again! 🌧️🌧️

More rain is expected in coming days with a possible East Coast Low developing. Stay alert - not alarmed, keep up to date via Bureau of Meteorology website, and take a few simple steps around your home to prepare:

💦 Make sure your gutters are cleaned out so that water can easily escape your property. This would be the most common cause for water to get into your house and for use to get on roofs. A little bit of maintanence goes a long way.

🛠️ While you might be on a ladder looking at your roof, just check for any holes in metal roofs or loose tiles on tiled roofs. This is probably the second most common cause for leaking roofs which often is quick and easy to fix.

💨 Whilst we are not expecting any major wind, it is still a good idea to tidy your yard and tie down anything that is loose in the garden, just in case a gust does come through.

🚘 Whilst we are not expecting any riverine flooding at this stage, flash flooding can occur from heavy downpours. Please never drive through flood water and have a plan if the route you drive or the area around your house does tend to flood.

Continue to monitor conditions and in the event of you requiring emergency assistance related to the storm, ie. leaking roofs, sandbagging assistance etc, please call 132 500. If you are experiencing a medical emergency or life threatening emergency, please dial 000.

Regardless, our volunteers are at the ready to provide assistance where needed. Take care and stay safe Port Macquarie!

🧡 WOW Day – Wear Orange Wednesday 2026 🧡

This week we proudly celebrate and recognise the incredible volunteers of the NSW SES Port Macquarie Unit.
With over 70 dedicated members, our unit represents an extraordinary 532 years of combined service, ranging from new volunteers with just 6 months’ experience to those who’ve committed over 26 years. From 17-year-olds to members in their late 70s, this is a team defined by diversity, resilience, and community spirit.

Over the past year, our volunteers have:

🚨 Responded to 750+ incidents supporting our community
🎓 Completed 11,000+ hours of training
🛠Contributed 4,000+ hours to operational readiness and maintenance
🤝 Delivered 1,000+ hours of community engagement

These numbers tell a powerful story, but they only scratch the surface of the commitment, teamwork, and care shown every single day by our valued volunteers.

Yesterday, we were proud to welcome Local Member Robert Dwyer MP , PMH Mayor Adam Roberts, and LEMO Ben Woods to mark this special occasion. They toured our unit and saw firsthand the capability, equipment, and fleet enhancements that help keep the Port Macquarie Hastings community safe.

On WOW Day and to recognise National Volunteer Week, we wear orange to say one thing clearly:

THANK YOU!

To our volunteers, your dedication does not go unnoticed. You are community helping community in action, and we are incredibly proud of you. 🧡

🌧 Rain Hail or Shine, We are here for you ☀️

This surprising little rain event has put some pressure on some of the local roofs around Port Macquarie. Our unit has received over 20 calls for help and our volunteers have responded. Through the rain we have been up on roofs, helping community members in need with various types of jobs from leaks, through to sandbagging garages and more.

For any emergency assistance due to the rain, please call 132500.
For any life threatening emergencies, please dial 000.

Tomorrow the BOM has forecast some pretty decent rainfall totals. Please continue to monitor the BOM website for updates or any warnings. Stay safe Port Macquarie. Our volunteers are at the ready to help.
