Our volunteers had a long sunday on the water for an assist taking nearly 7 hours for CG17 with 4 crew and a radio operator ashore. A 25 mile steam to collect a 5.8 meter vessel with 3 POB, then a 4 hour tow home. Big rolling 2-3 meter swell. It was lovely on the the water though with the dolphins, the albatross and our spectacular coastline. We even saw a whale blow.

Sounds like an expensive fix. On the bright side they had some fish and it was a calm day on the water

Job done!! Our Portland VF17 volunteers had a busy morning spreading and packing crusher dust in front of the shed apron. The car, the boat and the promo trailer are now housed in their shed, protected, safe and out of the weather. Yay!!

Coast Guard Portland have collected their new tow vehicle, from Baulch Motors Warrnambool. We had no problems with the last Isuzu so we got another one complete with upgraded safety features. We didn't get to keep the red bow.

CG17 and her 5 crew plus a radio operator spent 5 hours to retrieve a broken down 6.7 meter vessel from 20 miles distant. The single occupant of the vessel commented on the beautiful weather but thought his engine piston was in places it shouldn't be. That will do it!

CG17 was tasked this morning to tow a 10 meter catamaran with a smashed rudder in reasonable swell for about 8 miles. The cat was travelling from the Coorong to Geelong and hit something in the middle of the night offshore in 40 meters of water. He's lucky the rudder was all that was damaged.

Albatross are very inquisitive birds and will swim up very close

Last night VF17 Portland was called on to assist a fishing trawler that had lost drive. CG17 met the 170 tonne vessel in Portland bay, taking over the tow from another assisting vessel.
CG17's crew towed the trawler into Portland Harbour then rafted up. Towing along side to put the trawler onto the wharf all safe and well.
A vessel of 170 tonnes is a heavy tow for CG17 , it is not the heaviest, 185 tonne ten years ago is the standing record for CG17.
Well done by rescue vessel and radio room crew
