Two of our firies, Ben and Blake, climbed the Furber Stairs in Katoomba yesterday, whilst wearing their full structural firefighting gear. That's 951 stairs down and 951 stairs up!
They undertook this challenge to raise money for research into motor neuron disease (MND) and personally raised $3,200 for the cause!
Great job boys. We're proud of you!

Later this month, two of our local firies, Ben and Blake, will be taking on the Furber Stairs in their full firefighting gear to raise money towards MND research. That's 951 stairs up, 951 stairs back!

To assist them with their fundraising goal, a trivia night is being held 6:30pm this Friday 21st August at the Zig Zag Brewery, Portland, with the brewery donating 10% of bar proceeds towards the charity.

If you often find yourself yelling the correct answers at the TV whilst watching The Chase, this may be your time to shine! Hope to see you there.

❤️‍🔥 Friday the 21st we’re teaming up with our local heroes at Portland Fire Station and helping raise money for MND.

We’re hosting a fun night of trivia with plenty of prizes and giveaways throughout the night ran by the team themself — so get the crew together and come have a bit of fun for a seriously important cause.

And here’s the big one…

🍻 10% of everything you spend at the bar will be donated to the cause!

Good people, good laughs, plenty of prizes and a chance to help raise some serious cash for MND.

Grab your crew, book your table and let’s get behind our local heroes this Friday night. ❤️

With the recent wild weather we have been experiencing, we’d like to remind everyone of the danger of fallen or burning powerlines.

• If you see fallen powerlines or powerlines on fire, call 000 and ask for the Fire Brigade.

• If you see powerlines that have fallen from poles, ALWAYS assume they are live and do not touch them. Keep at least 10m away from them.

• Do not touch anything that has come into contact with powerlines, such as trees or cars.

• If you are in a motor vehicle that has had powerlines land on it. Do not exit your vehicle. Warn people not to come near it and call emergency services.

The electricity distribution authority for the Portland area is Endeavour Energy. However, in an emergency situation, call us first and we can notify Endeavour Energy to attend if needed.

Thanks

Two of our Portland Firies, Ben and Blake, will be climbing the Furber Stairs in Katoomba, whilst wearing their full structural gear and breathing apparatus!

They're taking on this difficult challenge to raise awareness for Motor Neuron Disease (MND), and support the incredible work done at the MND Research Centre at Macquarie University.

MND is a progressive, terminal neurological disease. It affects the nerve cells (neurones) controlling the muscles that enable us to move, speak, breathe and swallow, causing them to degenerate and die.

Every day in Australia, two people are diagnosed with MND and two people die from the disease. Around 2,752 Australians are thought to be living with MND at any one time. These are family members, friends, and people within out communities that battle with this disease.

It looks like something out of a horror movie but it's actually our crew performing a search and rescue drill tonight. The plastic bags over our helmets take away our vision and simulate what it's like in a house fire scenario, where visibility is poor.

Make sure you stay fire safe this winter by checking your smoke alarms, keeping items 1 metre from the heater and ensuring your chimney is kept clean.
