The friends of the Great South West Walk, numbering approx 140 members of which approx 20 are active volunteers, administer, maintain and promote the walk under the jurisdiction of and joint partnership with Parks Victoria.

With Winter behind us now is the perfect time to put a Spring in your step and join us on our first recreational walk for the season.

On MONDAY, SEPT 7th, we’ll be walking 22km from Moleside to Fitzroy with an opt out point at Harris Rd.

This walk is graded moderate-difficult.

We will meet @ Fitzroy at 8:30am before carpooling to Moleside to start our walk.

All walkers need to register by 3pm, SUN, SEPT 6th

What are your plans for Thursday, August 20?

A possible option would be to join us on our next recreational walk from Bill’s Walk to Yellow Rock.

This 12 km walk is graded moderate and will take us through coastal heathland, past the Gannet colony and the popular surf spots of Blacknose and Crumpets and along the stunning cliffs of Nelson bay.

We will meet at Yellow Rock @ 9am to arrange carpooling to the start of our walk.

THURSDAY, AUGUST 20, our next recreational walk…and our last one for Winter, will be an invigorating 12km walk starting at Bill’s Walk and finishing at Yellow Rock.

This walk is graded medium and is mainly along the clifftops offering up spectacular views of of Cape Grant, Crayfish Bay, Nelson Bay and the popular surf spots of Blacknose, Crumpets and finishing at Yellow Rock Rock.

We will meet at Yellow Rock @ 9am before carpooling to Bill’s Walk to start our walk.

FED WALK PLANNING- Got a bus to catch on Sunday? Need to get home? We have added another walk on Sunday morning, Walk 6, a short walk on Cape Nelson. It includes the dramatic wild coastal cliffs and the sheltered intimate coastal bush, with flora and fauna. Keep your eyes out for whales and orchids. Only 8km long, you will be back in town for lunch.

The next FGSWW Saturday Walking Group will be held on August 15th.
Starting at the Cape Nelson Lighthouse, walkers will enjoy an 8km Easy trek along GSWW with spectacular views and along Graeme’s Walk and
through the Enchanted Forest where this trek finishes in the Enchanted Forest Carpark on the Norman Wade Drive.
We will meet at the Lighthouse @ 10am, to arrange carpooling.
New walkers welcome.

Come and join us on our next recreational walk on
MONDAY AUGUST 3rd.

We’ll be walking 19.5km from Moleside to Battersbys along the beautiful Glenelg river. This walk is graded easy-moderate.
There will be an opt out point at Pritchard (9.1km)

On this section of the GSWW we will pass through an amazing variety of landscapes, from towering Stringy Barks, Manna Gums and River Red Gums to Coastal Heathland and always with the river by your side meandering its way towards Discovery Bay.
You’d have to be extremely unlucky not to spot a Koala on this walk as it’s one of the best spots in Victoria for seeing them in the wild.

We will meet at Battersbys at 8:30am to arrange carpooling.

All walkers need to register by 3pm, SUNDAY, AUGUST 2nd.

Explore Casterton Walking Trails.
Total 9 km G 2 Easy. On this months FGSWW Saturday walk, walkers will travel to Casterton
where they will enjoy two loop walks, Kelpie
Walking Trail and River Junction Track. The group will
leave the Portland Information Centre at 9am.
