Last weekend our very own Rhys attend Stawell SES for the first of her two weekend RCR (Road Crash Rescue) course. Was good to watch these member learn new skills and for myself to learn the new methods.

Community Announcement: Upcoming National Mobile Alert Test.

Heads up, Portland

A nationwide test of Australia's new emergency alert system, AusAlert, is scheduled for the end of the month.

On Monday, 27 July 2026, a test alert will be sent to mobile devices across the country, including most phones, tablets, and some smart watches.
This is to ensure the system is working correctly before it officially launches in October.

What to expect during the test:
🔊 Your device will play a siren-like warning sound.
📳 It will also vibrate for about 10 seconds.
📱 A message will appear on your screen, which will clearly state that it is a TEST.

The appearance of the alert may vary slightly depending on your device's model and operating system.

There is no need to be alarmed. This is a planned test of the system designed to keep us all informed during future emergencies.

At the Controllers conference this weekend our very own Ray Polaski was awarded the Peter Rabone award for Excellence in Peer Support. For his unwavering peer support, professionalism and compassion especially in times of critical need.

Well done Ray keep up the good work and thank you for all your support.

Saturday 23rd May 2026, 2 members of the Portland and Heywood SES Units attended an awards ceremony at Warrnambool. They were supported by Portland SES Life Membership Charlie Debono ESM and Ray Polaski ESM. A number of other recipients from other units were also represented.

Today we celebrate Wear Orange Wednesday and the incredible dedication of our SES volunteers who give so much to support the community.

Members from the Portland Unit spent time visiting Portland Primary School and Portland Bay School. We thank both schools for celebrating with us and for the warm welcome throughout the day.

A big thank you also to the inquisitive students whose enthusiasm and thoughtful questions made the visits so enjoyable for our members!

We are very lucky to have received a generous donation of knitted SES dolls, made by Deb and her knitting group.

A huge thank you to Deb and everyone involved for their kindness and support.

We’d also like to thank the Portland Bay School SRC for inviting our members to visit the school the timing couldn’t be more perfect with Wear Orange Wednesday tomorrow!

Straight off the job into community engagement activities!

Opportunities like these are a great way to connect with local students and showcase how they can get involved in supporting their community.
