Darebin Libraries We are a public library service with four libraries across the City of Darebin. Our libraries are so much more than a place to browse and borrow.

We offer a welcoming space for study, learning, leisure and lounging. With a varied collection of resources, ever-expanding digital services and four library branches located at Fairfield, Northcote, Preston, and Reservoir, we're one of the most valued services within the City of Darebin. We have a large digital and physical collection of books, movies, music, audiobooks, newspapers and magazines

available for borrowing. These resources are available in English as well as in our community languages – Chinese, Vietnamese, Arabic, Italian, Spanish and Greek. Our Home library service, accessibility computers, talking books and large print books are just some of the ways we deliver on this commitment.

Join us to launch Beyond Age, a special exhibition celebrating the lives, stories and experiences of older adults in Darebin.

Created in partnership with Seniors Rights Victoria, the project brought together 27 people who live, work or spend time in Darebin.

Each participant shared a photo from their younger years, took part in a professional portrait session and answered the question: ✨What would you tell your younger self about getting older?✨

Come along to celebrate their stories, challenge ageism and help build a community where everyone can age with dignity and respect.

👋😊 Meet Don, one of the friendly JPs providing documenting signing at Darebin Libraries. Don has been a Justice of the Peace for about 25 years and enjoys being able to help people. Don can take stat decs, witness documents, swear and affirm affidavits and certify copies of original documents.

📝💫 We recently expanded the JP service available at our libraries. You can now find a JP at one of our branches three days a week.

The schedule is:
📍Reservoir Library on Mondays from 10am – 2pm
📍Northcote Library on Wednesdays from 10am – 2pm
📍Preston Library on Thursdays from 10am – 2pm
There’s no need to book, you can just drop in during these hours.

We're celebrating Wear it Purple Day with displays of purple books across the library in support of LGBTQIA+ young people. This year's theme, Colours of Courage, celebrates the courage shown every day by LGBTQIA+ young people, allies and communities.

Everyone deserves to feel safe, supported, included and proud of who they are.

We spotted Bob and Dob (getting into trouble!), Derek and Magpie (working together!), Hairy Maclary (with a BIG bone), and WAIT - is that - Wally!! We found Wally hiding behind a sparkly green frog! 😄🤪🐸

Together, The Children's Book Council of Australia and StoryBox Hub are excited to connect young Australians with quality literature

Children's Book Week - one of Australia's most beloved reading celebrations - returns August 22-28, inviting us into a Symphony of Stories

It's a theme that reminds us how books blend words, images, sounds and emotions into something truly powerful.

To kick things off, author, illustrator and composer Matt Ottley Art shares what Symphony of Stories means to him - and how his series, The Sound of Picture Books, brings that idea to life in a truly immersive way.

Join us this Children’s Book Week for a symphony of stories! ✨📚😊

Every year we get together for Book Week storytimes to celebrate our favourite books and characters from the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) awards. The CBCA awards are a national event, supporting and promoting Australian writers and illustrators for readers aged 0 to 18.

So, don a costume inspired by a book character (not compulsory, but definitely fun!), bring your preschoolers, borrow some books, and enjoy this year’s symphony of stories!

Hey, movie fans! Did you know we regularly screen films at our libraries? 🍿🎞️😊

For folks who love documentaries, embrace curiosity at Docutopia. We explore powerful, thought-provoking films at this monthly documentary night, and after the screening there’s relaxed post-film chat. Next up on the big screen at Resa, Comic Book Confidential in August and Chicken People in September.

We also have a family-friendly screening of Magic Beach coming up. Based on the much-loved children’s book by Alison Lester, it’s a unique mix of live action entwined with extraordinary, animated stories from ten leading Australian animators.

🥳Solution: The Warm Winter Read Big Book Swap!

Bring along your pre-loved books and swap them for new (to you!) reads. You can turn those neglected books from dust catchers to page turners for their new owners, while scoring yourself something new to read. Win/win!

Any books you bring along should be in fair to good condition (well-read but undamaged).

📚🎨✨ We recently wrapped up our Disability Pride Month celebrations with a morning tea and artist talk featuring Arts Project Australia (APA) and artist Darcy Scott.

Darcy’s zines are now on display at our libraries, alongside works from other APA artists! At Northcote Library Darcy's zines can be found online in a dedicated, accessible reading space until the end of August.

These publications highlight the creativity and lived experiences of neurodivergent artists and artists with intellectual disability.
