Exciting news for Fairfield Library!📚

Last week, Minister for Local Government The Honourable Tim Richardson joined Darebin Mayor Emily Dimitriadis and Member for Northcote Kat Theophanous to announce that our Living Libraries Victoria grant application for Extra Access at Fairfield Library was successful. 🎉

This funding will help Council expand access to library facilities, making it easier for our community to access the spaces, services and opportunities they need to stay connected, healthy and supported.

As part of the announcement, we took a tour of the library to explore the positive impact this investment will have for our community once implemented.

Extra Access at Fairfield Library is due to be launched in early 2028.📚

Help make Darebin backyards safer for native wildlife🦜

From October to March, Darebin residents can swap harmful fruit tree netting for a safer alternative, with surrendered nets collected and recycled.

In Victoria, fruit tree netting must have a mesh size smaller than 5mm x 5mm at full stretch, as larger netting can trap and injure birds, bats and other native animals🐦🦇

Find out when and where replacement nets will be available at https://ow.ly/omPt50ZNCYC

The Net Swap Program is delivered by the conservation regulator in partnership with participating Victorian councils.

This History Month we delighted in the evocative tones of traditional instruments—the bouzouki, baglama and lavta—up close and live with Rebetiko: Instruments, Sound and Story with Con Kalamaras. Attendees learnt how these instruments shaped the feel and flow of Rebetiko—the 'Greek blues'—a genre born from the stories of exile, endurance, and urban experience in early 20th-century Greece. Thank you to everyone who attended 😊🎶.

Join us this Wednesday at Northcote Library as we continue to celebrate History Month with a Film Screening of Ablaze, a documentary about the first Aboriginal filmmaker William 'Bill' Onus, a truly heroic cultural and political figure who ignited a civil rights movement that would change the course of history.
