The Gloucester Rural Fire Brigade will be undertaking a planned burn between Dingo Beach and Hydeaway Bay across the next two days (08/09/26 - 09/09/26).

Planned burns are an important part of bushfire management, and help to reduce fuel loads and the risk of wildfire hazard.

It is recommended that residents near these locations take the following precautions:

- Keep windows closed for the duration of the fire
- Minimise washing placed on clothes lines
- Keep respiratory medication close by if needed
- Smoke may decrease visibility on roads so motorists are advised to drive with caution and to the conditions.

🏁 START YOUR ENGINES, BOWEN! 🏁

Bowen is gearing up for one of the biggest and loudest weekends of the year as the Don River Dash roars back into town!

Since the very first Dash in 2019, Whitsunday Regional Council has been proud to support an event that has grown into a real highlight on our region’s calendar.

And it’s not just about the racing. The Dash brings thousands of spectators, competitors and crews into Bowen, filling accommodation, supporting local shops, cafes and businesses and showcasing our part of the Whitsundays to a huge audience.

A massive amount of work goes on behind the scenes to make a weekend like this happen. Our Council crews have also been busy helping with set-up and it was great to hear such positive feedback from the organisers about the work our trams have done to help get everything ready.

So a big thank you to the organisers, volunteers, sponsors, Council crews and everyone else who has put in the hard yards. If you’re looking for something to do this weekend, get yourself to Bowen, grab a spot along the course and enjoy the action.

It’s fast. It’s dusty. It’s loud. And it’s a cracking weekend for Bowen.
Good luck to everyone competing in the 2026 Don River Dash! 🏍️🏎️💨

Happy Friday! 🌞

🌺 Planning a bit of gardening this weekend? We’ve got some good news for you.

FREE processed mulch is now available to residents from Whitsunday Regional Council waste facilities during normal operating hours, for the rest of the financial year.

📍 Bowen
📍 Cannonvale
📍 Proserpine
📍 Collinsville

Mulch is great for helping keep moisture in the soil, weeds down and garden beds looking good — while also giving our green waste another life 🌱

So if the garden is on the weekend job list, grab some mulch while you’re there.

Free mulch + weekend gardening = happy green thumbs 💚

Have a great weekend, Whitsundays!

Turning dirt on Cannonvale’s future! 🌱A great milestone today as we officially turned the sod on the new $30 million Cannonvale Community Hub at Galbraith Park.

The Hub will bring together a modern library, Council customer service, meeting rooms and flexible community spaces, all designed to connect with the surrounding park.

Mayor Ry Collins said investing in community infrastructure across the Whitsundays was an important part of keeping pace with the region’s growth.

“Cannonvale is changing quickly and we need to make sure our community facilities keep pace.

“This is a large investment in Cannonvale’s future and another important step in making sure the Whitsundays remains a great place to live as our region continues to develop.”

The project is proudly supported by $15 million from the Australian Government, alongside Council funding, with completion expected in late 2027, weather permitting.
