April is Parkinson's Awareness Month! Here are some early signs of Parkinson's Disease for both carers and clients.
April is Parkinson's Awareness Month! Our community health team regularly supports clients diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease both newly diagnosed and those who have had a diagnosis for longer. Often the diagnosis feels overwhelming, and symptoms such as fatigue, cognitive changes, reduced confidence, and isolation make daily life challenging.
Through coordinated support, the Movement Disorder Nurse and broader community health team work together to:
✔️ Provide education on Parkinson’s symptoms, medications, and self‑management
✔️ Monitor changes and coordinate timely referrals
✔️ Link the client into Speech Pathology, OT, Physio, Exercise Physiology, Social Work, Continence Nursing and other community programs
✔️ Assist with NDIS preparation, documentation, and navigation and the My Aged Care program.
✔️ Support reconnection with social groups, Parkinson’s programs, and community activities
