NSW SES Blacktown Unit

NSW SES Blacktown Unit NSW SES (New South Wales State Emergency Service) is the combat agency for floods, storms and tsunami in NSW.

The NSW State Emergency Service (SES) is an emergency and rescue service dedicated to assisting the community. It is made up almost entirely of volunteers, with 241 units located throughout New South Wales. The units comprise of approximately 9,000 volunteer members, who are easily identified by their distinctive orange overalls. While our major responsibilities are for flood, storm and tsunami op

erations, the SES also provides the majority of general rescue effort in the rural parts of the state. This includes road accident rescue, vertical rescue, bush search and rescue, evidence searches (both metropolitan and rural) and other forms of specialist rescue that may be required due to local threats. Volunteers in a number of isolated communities have been trained as Community First Responders by the Ambulance Service of New South Wales. The Service's trained rescuers also support the full-time emergency services during major disasters. The SES also assists other emergency services when they are performing major operations. These services include the NSW Police Force, the NSW Rural Fire Service, the Fire and Rescue NSW and the Ambulance Service of NSW.

LIGHT FLOOD RESCUE VEHICLE FAMILIARISATION ✅

Last week, our members took part in a detailed walk-through of one of our new fleet; a Light Flood Rescue Vehicle, currently on loan from NSW SES City of Sydney unit. 🛻

This Toyota LandCruiser 70 Series, is a vital part of the NSW SES fleet, purpose-built for flood rescue operations. 🚣‍♀️ Its increased clearance and wading depth, allows our teams to safely navigate through water, ensuring we can reach and assist the community in the most challenging conditions. 🌊

Designed in collaboration with volunteers, operational experts, and manufacturers, 🤝 these new 4WD vehicles ensure we can reach isolated areas quicker, when every second counts. ✨

A DAY FOR REMEMBRANCE AND REFLECTION🎖️

Earlier this morning, 27 NSW SES Blacktown Unit volunteers supported local Anzac Day Dawn Services held at the Riverstone-Schofields RSL. Working alongside local Police Area Command and Highway Patrol, our members managed traffic and event road closures, 🚧 keeping the community safe during this morning's commemorations.

This Anzac Day, we pause to reflect on the courage and bravery of our service men and women. We remember those who have served, those who continue to serve, and those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. 🕯️

We will remember them.
Lest we forget. 🌺

SKILLS MAINTENANCE ✅

As an emergency service 🚨 it’s critical that we keep our core field skills current to be able to respond to emergencies effectively.

Last night our volunteers focused on communication 🗣️ skills through various team building activities. This ensuring members can communicate effectively during field operations and weather events. ⛈️

Weekly training is essential for our operators, to maintain core skill sets,✅ build relationships and team morale. 🤝

If learning valuable skills and building relationships with likeminded individuals interests you then APPLY NOW 👉 https://www.ses.nsw.gov.au/volunteer/ to volunteer with the NSW SES Blacktown Unit.

KICKING OFF THE LONG WEEKEND EARLY 🚨

We kicked off the long weekend with a call-out during peak hour this afternoon. Crews responded to 📍Newton Road, Blacktown, where a large tree branch had snapped and was blocking a lane of traffic. 🌳

Our volunteers quickly got to work, safely removing the branch and managing traffic to restore safe access to the roadway. 🚧

A great effort by our crews to ensure the safety of the local community. 👏

MARCH RECAP 🔄

it was a busy month for our volunteers with wild weather 💨 and interagency training keeping our members busy across a range of operations.

Last weeks winds had our members attend to many local jobs as well as helping our neighbours 🤝 at Penrith NSW State Emergency Service who copped the brunt of last weeks hail storm. ⛈️

Earlier this month a couple of our Flood Rescue operators spent the day assisting the RFS Aviation Rescue Team complete their helicopter 🚁 rescue recertification. Our volunteers played key roles as in-water 💦 casualties and supported hands-on flood rescue training. 🛟
