𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐩 𝐓𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲.

Thanks to a submission from an avid follower, former firefighter, appliance collector and general Fire Brigade expert Guy Ellis, we have an image of Pyrmont Fire Station in 1988 with our International ACCO motor. At the time it also housed a spare engine as seen in the second engine bay. Once again, thanks goes out to Guy for this rare image of that period in time.

𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐩 𝐓𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲.

In light of this weekend's City To Surf, we bring to you a unique incident response involving 004 Darlinghurst during 1984s race. Approximately thirty minutes into the race, a helicopter covering the race, spiraled out of control and crashed into the Weigal Playing fields between Rushcutters Bay Park and White City. All three crew members were transported to hospital with serious injuries, but, made full recoveries subsequently.

𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐩 𝐓𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲.

"Crowds were attracted to George Street North, in The Rocks, Sydney, on the 17th July 1952, when a fire swept through two large buildings. The fire was so rapid, that the firms housed in the two buildings had little chance to save anything. The fire began early in the afternoon on the first floor of the Harrington’s Building, at the corner of Atherton Place and George Street North. Within a few minutes, all four storeys of the building were ablaze.
Flames shot hundreds of feet into the air, and a haze of smoke covered most of the City. This image shows two firefighters high on extension ladders, directing their hoses into the upper floors of the two affected buildings. You can also spot the crowds which had gathered in the street to watch. The damages to the buildings and merchandise were estimated at more than £200,000 (approximately $6,600,0000 today)."

𝐂 𝐎 𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐨!

Yesterday morning the specialist crews trained on the Co2 tender from Station 38 were very busy when they were responded to multiple incidents involving trams with overheating battery packs.
The Co2 tender is a 1 of 2 appliances in FRNSW with its back-up truck Co2 Bravo. Both housed at Station 38 Pyrmont these vehicles are a state wide resource avaliable to the service manned 24/7.
It responds to tackle subterranean, confined, and electrical fires. The unit allows firefighters to safely displace oxygen with carbon dioxide without risking water damage. Co2 Alpha carries 16 x CO2 cylinders (22 kilos per cylinder), 12 x 5kg cylinders and utilises 2 x 60 meter long hose reels. It also carries 45 BA cylinders along with BA control utilities.

𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐩 𝐓𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲.

Today we present a rare photo indeed. This is the No.002 Station, George Street West Pumper working in 1938. We will cover this fire in greater detail in an October Timewarp Tuesday.
In a thrilling Sydney fire, employees’ Frantic leap to safety, accompanied by terrific explosions. As huge paint tins of fuel ignited, the Pabco Products Ltd building in Wentworth Park Rd, Glebe today was destroyed by fire, which spread with lightning speed. The damage is estimated at 200,000 pounds. (A$33 million today).
