Utter devastation 💔

This scary image shows what lithium-ion batteries can do to your house when they overheat and explode 💥

An Upwey family very sadly lost their home last month after a lithium-ion battery on charge caught fire and tore through the property within minutes. Firefighters later discovered the device was being charged with an incompatible charger.

In a concerning trend, CFA (Country Fire Authority) and Fire Rescue Victoria firefighters are responding to around one fire each day caused by rechargeable lithium-ion batteries.

To minimise the risk of a lithium-ion battery fire:
🔌 Use chargers and cords that are originally supplied with that device.
🔇 Only charge items in rooms with smoke alarms.
⚡ Avoid charging on soft locations such as couches, beds and carpets.
❌ Never use batteries or devices that show signs of swelling or bulging, leaking or overheating.
🤝 Buy products from a trusted supplier.

Today's GFF consolidation day brought together recruits from Queenscliff, Corio, Little River and Freshwater Creek. They worked seamlessly as a team, putting their training into practice — a great effort all round 🚒 💪Thanks to Highton Fire Brigade for hosting👍

A new national warning system called AusAlert will be used across Australia from October 2026.

AusAlert will be able to send warning messages to your mobile device as push notifications during:
• Natural hazards such as bushfires, floods, and tsunamis
• Public health emergencies
• Biosecurity incidents
• Security threats

Before the system is introduced, it will be tested.
In Victoria, a local test will happen in the Geelong suburbs of Highton and Belmont on Thursday 18 June at 2 pm, followed by a national test on Monday 27 July at 2 pm.

More about the tests and rollout of AusAlert will be shared on the VicEmergency page in the coming weeks.

🌅 ANZAC DAY 2026 — LEST WE FORGET 🌅

Today, members of our Brigade had the honour of attending three Anzac Day services across our community to pay tribute to those who served.

We joined our community at dawn in Queenscliff as the day began in quiet reflection, then moved to the cenotaph in Point Lonsdale for the 9am service, before concluding at the historic Queenscliff Fort for the 11am commemoration.

To march alongside our community on this day is a privilege. We remember with gratitude and we honour with pride.

Thank you to our neighbours Mannerim Fire Brigade, for joining us across all three services today. Always great to stand together.

A heartfelt thank you to Marion for generously donating the wreaths for each service 🩷

We will remember them. 🌺
