πŸ”₯ Lyell McElf has been spotted reading through the Tasmania Fire Service Bushfire Ready booklet β€” even elves know how important it is to be prepared.

🌲 He’d like to remind all West Coasters to make sure you and your household are bushfire ready. Our own fires back in February were a scary reminder of how quickly things can change, and right now the East Coast is experiencing its own challenges.

πŸ“˜ Take a moment to check your plan, know your options, and keep the Bushfire Ready guide handy.

πŸ”₯ And remember - it's now a fire permit period, go to https://www.fire.tas.gov.au/ for more details

πŸŽ„ Lyell might be cheeky, but he’s right β€” preparation is the best protection

Pick up your Bushfire Ready information:
- at the Council Office
- or online at https://bushfire.tas.gov.au/

πŸ‘€ Where will we find Lyell tomorrow? Stay tuned to follow his merry West Coast adventures

The Fire Permit Period for all of Tasmania will start tomorrow (Tuesday, 16 December 2025) – this means from 2am Fire Permits will be required across the state until the end of the 2025-26 bushfire season πŸ”₯πŸ“ƒ

If you have a property and you wish to conduct a burn (larger than 1 cubic metre in size) on your property, you will need to apply for a free Fire Permit by submitting an application online at fire.tas.gov.au or calling the Tasmania Fire Service on 1800 000 699

πŸ“² During a Fire Permit Period:

πŸ“‘ People intending to light a fire for burning vegetation or for a similar purpose must obtain a permit.

πŸ“‘ People intending to light a fire at a sawmill or factory for burning wood waste or other flammable material must obtain a permit.

πŸ“‘ People intending to light a fire for cooking, warmth or disposal of garden waste do not require a permit provided that:
❌ The fire is not lit in peat, humus or marram grass.
❌ The fire is attended by a responsible adult at all times until it is extinguished.
❌ All flammable material is removed for at least three metres radius from the fire.
❌ It is less than one cubic metre in size.

Last week, eight members from Queenstown travelled to 3 Mile Line in Burnie to complete their Working at Heights training.

Our team enjoyed the course and found the material both practical and engaging.

We now have the necessary equipment on our trucks, ensuring we’re prepared to safely carry out work at heights πŸš’
