This weekend, the will deploy its CH-47D Chinook helicopter and a Bell 412 support aircraft to fight fires in France. This will mark the Service’s first-ever European deployment.

The aircraft will be accompanied by 24 highly skilled aerial and ground crew, and transported to France in partnership with the Australian Defence Force.

The Chinook, equipped with an 11,300-litre belly tank, has the largest payload of any firefighting helicopter in Australia. Working with the Bell 412, it is also capable of conducting waterbombing missions at night. Should it be tasked to do so in France, it will be the first time night-time waterbombing has been undertaken in the country.

Commissioner Trent Curtin says the deployment is a testament to the expertise of our aviation crews.

“We're proud to share that expertise with our international partners while strengthening the relationships that are so important when disasters occur around the world."

One month after departing Australia, the Large Air Tanker 'Marie Bashir' has delivered more than 500,000 litres of retardant on fires in two different states, most recently supporting operations on the Summit Fire near Piñon Hills, California.

With elevated fire conditions continuing across the United States, a formal request for assistance has been received. The RFS is working closely with the AFAC National Resource Sharing Centre to support the deployment of Incident Management Personnel, Task Force Leaders and Air Base Managers to assist with the ongoing firefighting operations.

Today, members of Raglan RFS Brigade attended a First Aid Course, where they gained valuable knowledge and practical skills to help them respond confidently in emergency situations.
The course covered a range of important first aid techniques, providing our volunteers with the tools and confidence to assist those in need, both on and off the fireground.
A big thank you to the trainers for sharing their expertise and helping our members continue to develop their skills. Ongoing training is an important part of ensuring our brigade is prepared to support and protect our community.
