As at 1:45pm, there are 42 bush and grass fires across NSW, with 14 not yet contained.

Fires in the Mid Coast and Tenterfield LGAs are producing smoke visible across surrounding communities. Smoke may settle in low-lying areas overnight and into the morning, before clearing as temperatures rise during the day.

While most of NSW is outside the Bush Fire Danger Period, recent warm, dry weather has led to a number of escaped pile burns. Land managers are urged to exercise caution, monitor local weather conditions, and remain with burns until they are fully extinguished.

Safe burning is your responsibility. For more information, visit the RFS website: www.rfs.nsw.gov.au

We are aware of smoke in the area.
It is coming from a private burn-off at Tatham and is being carried by the wind in our direction. There is no cause for concern.
The fire danger for the next few days is forecast to be Moderate, and we are not expecting the extreme heat event currently affecting areas further south.

Wyrallah RFS – Passing of John Paisley

It is with great sadness that Wyrallah Rural Fire Brigade advises of the passing of John Paisley, who passed away peacefully in hospital on 17 December.

John was a highly respected and longstanding member of the Wyrallah Brigade, serving our community from 1967 to 2025. Over nearly six decades of service, John’s dedication, experience, and commitment to protecting the community left a lasting legacy within the brigade.

John’s funeral will be held on Wednesday, 31 December at 10:00 am at St Andrew’s Anglican Church, Lismore. Wyrallah RFS will be forming a guard of honour as part of the service.

Our thoughts are with John’s family, friends, and fellow brigade members at this difficult time.
