Phones, laptops, e-bike batteries. They all generate heat while charging.

Charging on a bed, doona or pillow traps that heat against fabric. Lithium-ion fires can start fast.

Charge on a hard, flat surface. Keep batteries off bedding.

1st June is Smoke Alarm Action Day.
Fire and Rescue NSW, together with fire services across Australia, is urging people to check they have a working smoke alarm.

Last year, nearly half the homes damaged or destroyed by fire in NSW did not have a working smoke alarm. A working smoke alarm is your best early warning sign of a fire, giving you and your loved ones the chance to get out, stay out, and call Triple Zero (000).

Just before 1am this morning we responded to reports of a house fire on Phillip Street, Raymond Terrace.

Upon arrival there was smoke issuing from an abandoned house.

The crew quickly got to work extinguishing the fire and to prevent it spreading further homes.

Thankfully, there were no occupants in the home and no injuries reported.

Big thank you to Fire And Rescue NSW Station 454 Tarro NSW RFS - Raymond Terrace Brigade for your assistance and teamwork.

NSW Ambulance and NSW Police Force also attended.

Even though the home was abandoned smoke alarms could be heard on arrival.
Please take the time to check that your home has working smoke alarms and that you have a fire escape plan in place.
