🌟 PBL Focus – Thinker
Over the last 2 weeks, students have been focusing on being a Thinker by noticing how others feel and responding appropriately.

Families can support this learning at home by encouraging conversations such as:
πŸ’ "How do you think they felt?"
πŸ’ "What could you do to help?"
πŸ’ "How could you show kindness in that situation?"

These simple discussions help children build empathy, understanding and positive relationships.

🀝 Belonging @ Fernbrooke
Thank you to everyone who contributed to our recent student, staff and community voice forums. It has been wonderful to see strong agreement around the values that matter most to our school community, including acceptance, respect, responsibility, perseverance, inclusion and honesty.

We are continuing to analyse the feedback and work with stakeholders as we shape the future values of Fernbrooke State School.

🌱 Perry's Nest – Coming Soon!
Exciting things are happening in C Block! A group of students will soon begin working alongside Miss Curwen to transform an overgrown garden into Perry's Nestβ€”a sensory garden featuring 100% edible plants.

Students will develop new skills, connect with nature and help create a space that can be enjoyed by the entire school community. We can't wait to share the transformation and watch the garden grow!

πŸ‘€ Watch this space for updates!

πŸ’¬ The Power of Words πŸ’¬

At Fernbrooke State School, we are committed to creating a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment where every student feels valued and respected.

Recently, we have been reminding students about the importance of the words they choose. Language is powerfulβ€”it can build others up, create a sense of belonging and strengthen relationships. Equally, hurtful or offensive language can have a significant impact on others, regardless of the speaker's intent.

The upper primary years are an important time for students to develop empathy, respect and positive communication skills. As a school, we continue to work closely with students through education, restorative conversations and clear expectations to help them understand that words matter.

Families play an important role too. Conversations at home about respectful communication, online influences and treating others with dignity help reinforce these important messages.

Together, we can ensure Fernbrooke remains a place where kindness, respect and inclusion are at the heart of everything we do. πŸ’™πŸ’›

πŸ† Gala Day Update
Unfortunately, wet weather interrupted our first Gala Day. We are looking forward to getting back out there this Friday and will now utilise our catch-up day on 19 June to ensure students still enjoy three Gala Days.

πŸ›οΈ Year 6 Parliament in Schools
On 18 June, our Year 6 students will welcome federal representatives as part of the Parliament in Schools program. This is a fantastic opportunity for students to learn about government, democracy and the important role elected representatives play in our community.

🚌 Year 6 Parliament House Excursion
A reminder that payments for the Year 6 Parliament House excursion close on Friday 12 June. This excursion provides students with a valuable hands-on learning experience as they explore Queensland's democratic processes and institutions.

The countdown is on for our Senior Athletics Carnival, which will be held on 16 and 17 June!

This is always a fantastic opportunity for students to demonstrate their athletic skills, team spirit and sportsmanship while representing their sporting houses with pride.

We look forward to two exciting days of participation, encouragement and friendly competition as students strive to do their personal best.

Please continue to monitor our page and school communications for event details, schedules and important updates as the carnival approaches.

The Snr Athletics Carnival (years 4-6) is taking place on Tuesday (15/6) and Wednesday (16/6) next week. Below is the timetable of events. Due to the large number of students in the Snr School, students have been asked which events they would like to nominate/participate in over the 2 days. We look forward to some strong competition and house spirit over the carnival.

πŸ“š Finishing the Semester Strong! πŸ’ͺ

As we move towards the end of Semester 1, students across Fernbrooke are completing final assessments while teachers gather evidence of learning to prepare report cards.

While this can be a busy time, it is also an important opportunity for students to develop resilience, confidence and perseverance. Learning to tackle challenges, give their best effort and keep going when things feel difficult are valuable skills that will benefit them well beyond their school years.

🏫 A reminder that attendance remains one of the most important factors in student success. Every school day counts, and we thank families for supporting students to be at school, on time, every day, from the first bell to the last bell.

πŸ—‘οΈ We are also placing a renewed focus on keeping our school grounds clean and tidy. To support this, students are participating in a weekly Emu Parade, working together to collect litter and take pride in our shared environment. This initiative helps foster responsibility, community pride and respect for our school.

Thank you for your continued support as we work together to develop resilient learners and responsible citizens.

πŸ† Celebrating Achievement, Growth and Citizenship at Fernbrooke! 🌟

At Fernbrooke State School, our motto is "Exceeding Expectations", and we are excited to introduce a refreshed Semester 1 awards process that better recognises the many ways our students shine.

This semester, each class will present three special awards:
πŸ“š Teacher Award – recognising outstanding academic achievement.

🌱 Principal Award – celebrating students who have demonstrated significant growth in their learning, social development, or both.

⭐ Class STARS Citizenship Award – chosen by classmates to recognise students who consistently demonstrate our STARS expectations both inside and outside the classroom.

These awards reflect our commitment to celebrating not only excellence, but also growth, effort, character and positive contributions to our school community.

We look forward to recognising these deserving students at our Semester 1 Achievement Ceremony later this month.

Congratulations to all students who continue to strive, grow and exceed expectations every day at Fernbrooke! πŸ’™πŸ’›
