We like to think that our little Sugar Gliders have helped this Swift Parrot population. A while back, we helped trial a new kind of nest box in our Sugar Glider enclosure.

In Tasmania, Sugar Gliders are an introduced species, and along with ongoing logging, are a threat to the dwindling Swiftie population.

Long story short, the new nest box design by Gio Fitzpatrick (University of Melbourne) worked: our little gliders couldn't access the box, despite it containing their favourite food treats. The boxes have since been rolled out in Tasmania! 💚🥰💚

Incredible things can happen when people with similar passions meet! 🌱

A gathering of close to the total estimated population of swift parrots excites ecologists, but they warn it is no party for the critically endangered species.

Fallen trees and branches on our property means extra play time for our Rufous Bettongs and Gliders. 🌱💚

They just love the smell and texture of the fresh branches, and the additional hiding places that they provide. 🌿🐾🌿
