Another very lucky vessel. This one came aground during the high winds on Saturday. The owner came to assess the damage on Monday where we assisted to pump out water ingress. We were later called back last night to pump out more water. This morning the team along side VMR Raby Bay and Coast Guard Brisbane - QF2 assisted vessel to Manly so it could be lifted out of the water for repairs. Thank you to our neighbouring units for assisting!

This is one very lucky vessel! On Sunday while doing welfare checks on those living aboard vessels, we received a radio call advising us of a vessel that went adrift. Given the vessel was heading straight towards Lamb island Ferry terminal with the potential to cause damage to infrastructure we received approval to assist. We managed to get a line on the vessel within a meter of it hitting the pontoon and towed it to the MSQ enforcement mooring in Browns Bay. Well done to the crew!

Update for Sealink in relation to Ferries!

🌀 Cyclone Recovery Update – Sunday 9 March, 3:30pm🌀

We have approval from the Harbour Master to operate regular services and have some good news about tomorrow (Monday). The following is highly dependent on weather and other factors and is subject to change.

🔷 Vehicle Ferries:

Two of our vehicle ferries, our new vessel and Lakarma, will be operating tomorrow for all passengers. Emergency services and those with existing bookings will have priority, and our teams are working on contacting customers now.

Passengers wanting to book a vehicle on the ferry will be able to do so later tonight or tomorrow. We’re sorry we cannot provide a clearer timeline at this stage. Those unable to make a booking due to a lack of power or phone service can try joining our standby lanes tomorrow.

🔷 Passenger Ferries:

Our passenger ferries will be operating tomorrow from around 8am until dusk at around 5:30pm. They will run to the regular timetable where possible. We cannot operate at night due to the risk of debris. Customers are advised to consider this when making their travel plans.

🙏 Our teams are working incredibly hard behind the scenes to restore full operations. Some of our team members have also been deeply affected by this ongoing weather event, as we know many of you have. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through the challenges.

We’ll continue to provide updates here and on our website when there is new information to share.

Latest update from Bureau of Meteorology

Tropical Cyclone Alfred, a category 2 system, is slowly moving towards the south-east Queensland coast with impacts expected to increase this evening.

Alfred is expected to remain a category 2 system until the centre starts to interact with the coast and Islands. The centre of Alfred is expected to cross the coast very early Saturday morning, most likely between Noosa and Coolangatta.

Gales with damaging wind gusts to 120 km/hr are developing near the coast between Cape Moreton and Cape Byron and are expected to develop along the remaining south-east Qld and north-eastern NSW coastal and island communities between Double Island Point and Ballina during Thursday evening, possibly extending as far south as Grafton.

Destructive wind gusts of up to 155 km/hr may develop about coastal and island locations near and to the south of the cyclone centre, as Alfred's destructive core approaches the coast.

A dangerous storm tide is likely along the coastal foreshore for exposed areas between Cape Moreton and Yamba, including the Gold Coast and Byron Bay beaches, ahead of the coastal crossing time on the high tides.

Abnormally high tides are likely to continue causing minor flooding of coastal low-lying areas between Double Island Point and Grafton, particularly during the time of high tides Thursday night into early Friday morning and Friday night into early Saturday morning.

Damaging surf leading to significant beach erosion remains likely for the open beaches between Double Island Point and Grafton, and further south over the NSW coast. Separate Coastal Hazard and Hazardous Surf warnings are current for south-east Qld and NSW coasts.

Heavy rainfall may develop for south-east Qld and north-eastern NSW from Thursday night. Heavy to locally intense rainfall which may lead to dangerous and life-threatening flash flooding may occur near and south of the cyclone centre as Alfred approaches and crosses the coast.

Separate Severe Weather Warning and Flood Watches are current for south-east Qld and north-east NSW.

TC Alfred is expected to hit the coastline late Thursday night to early Friday morning.
This is a rare event and boaties need to prepare and take all warnings seriously.
A red alert for vessels came into effect from midday Wednesday 5 March 2025. This means no vessels can be out on the water without Harbour Master approval.
If you haven’t secured your vessel, ACT NOW to do so and return to safety.
Most importantly, STAY HOME. We need to keep you and our volunteers safe.
Marine rescue personnel and vessels have been pre-deployed to affected areas to help with disaster response.
We will be monitoring our radio channels and offering rescue services if it is safe to do so.
If you’re in danger, call Triple Zero (000) or VHF 16.
