🌟Attention Emu Residents🌟
With favourable conditions approaching this weekend, NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service and NSW Rural Fire Service are planning to conduct a Hazard Reduction in Emu Heights, detailed below.

This is an important part of fuel management in the area to protect from wildfires, and we appreciate everyone’s support and understanding.

All tracks and trails in and close to the burn will be closed until the area has been assessed and considered safe for public access. During the burn, you may experience periods of smoke and ash fall, particularly for residents living close to bushland areas:

🪟 Keep doors and windows closed to prevent smoke entering homes
🪑 Keep outdoor furniture under cover to prevent ember burns
🏊‍♂️ Retract pool covers to prevent ember damage
🧺 Remove washing from clothes lines
🐶 Ensure pets have a protected area
🚘 Vehicles must slow down, keep windows up, turn headlights on
🕵️‍♂️ Sightseers must keep away from burns for their own safety
😮‍💨 If you have asthma or a lung condition, reduce outdoor activities if smoke levels are high and if shortness of breath or coughing develops, take your reliever medicine or seek medical advice

Please be advised that the planned hazard reduction burn at Emu Heights, scheduled for this Saturday, has been postponed to another weekend by NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service

Please be advised the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service, together with the NSW Rural Fire Service, intend to conduct the River Road Hazard Reduction Burn in Yellomundee Regional Park, Emu Heights.

This burn is currently scheduled to take place from the 5th September 2026. The Hazard Reduction will be dependant on weather conditions and will be rescheduled within the next 6 weeks if conditions are not favourable.

The burn is part of an on-going fuel management program to assist in reducing the risk to properties from potential wild fires in the vicinity of Emu Heights and Mount Riverview. The burn is expected to take two to three days, with mopping up operations continuing for several days after. All tracks and trails in and close to the burn will be closed until the area has been assessed and considered safe for public access. During the burn, you may experience periods of smoke and ash fall.

The risk to properties during the burn is considered to be low therefore, you should follow the standard property protection procedures for residents living close to bushland areas:
•Remove leaf litter from gutters
•Remove any items that you may have in the Asset Protection Zone behind your property.
•Ensure that pets are secure within property boundaries and have an area that provides protection for them
•Close all windows and remove washing from clothes lines on the day of the burn
•Stay well clear of fire operations during the burn.
•If you have asthma or a respiratory condition we recommend that you stay inside or plan to be away from the area during the day of the burn.
•Be aware of potential smoke drift into residential areas and reduced visibility for motorists. Increased traffic from fire fighting vehicles will occur on roads in the immediate vicinity of the burn.

On Saturday, 6 of our firefighters put on their turnout gear and BA sets to tackle the gruelling Furber Stairs in Katoomba as part of the Firies Climb for Motor Neurone Disease.

Motor Neurone Disease has no known treatment or cure, but by raising money and awareness for research at Macquarie University were one step closer.

In two weeks, members from Regentville RFB will join hundreds of other firefighters, climbers and supporters for the Firies Climb for MND.

They will descend the iconic Furber Steps in the Blue Mountains, then climb the gruelling 951 stairs back up all in the cause of raising awareness and funding for research into MND at Maquarie University.

The firefighters will be making the steep ascent wearing full structural PPE as well as an air cylinder on their backs!

It’s been another busy few weeks for the Regentville Brigade!

❤️💛💚 Starting last weekend with the Penrith Panthers backyard celebrations for the Round 22 clash against Canberra, sharing the with fans and community.

🏠🔥 The following weekend our members were instructing on the Structural Firefighter course, supporting a new cohort of members and helping to develop other Brigades capability for what is a core skill in the Cumberland/Macarthur District. This was proven on the Saturday night, being called to attend a Structure Fire in Leppington shortly after the course finished for the day.

🍃 Over the next two days, we are assisting TAFE NSW to conduct a number of low intensity burns, teaching ecology students the benefits of fire for the rejuvenation of native flora.

In between all this, the Brigade has continued to respond to incidents- including car and truck fires, structure fires and even a boat in distress on the Nepean.

❄️ From frost to fire, it’s been another busy day for the volunteers at Regentville Rural Fire Brigade.

🚚 Our day started just after 6:20am with an especially crisp morning, as we assisted Fire and Rescue NSW HAZMAT crews at a truck rollover in Erskine Park involving building waste, including asbestos.

🔥 By 8:00am, our planned day crew had taken over at the station, ready to respond at a moment’s notice. Throughout the day, our volunteers attended multiple incidents across Western Sydney, including supporting a significant truck fire on the M4 alongside Fire and Rescue NSW, as well as NSW RFS - Eastern Creek, Orchard Hills and Catherine Field brigades, where our crew provided a crucial water supply, breathing apparatus operators and specialist equipment.

No two days are ever the same at Regentville. Whether it’s hazardous materials, bush fires, motor vehicle incidents or structure fires, our members are constantly developing their skills while making a real difference in the community.

Yesterday, Regentville firefighters braved the water at Penrith Whitewater Stadium as the first Land Based Flood Rescue course run by Cumberland/Macarthur District was delivered.

Firefighters learned the skills and techniques required to conduct land based flood rescues, as well as learning what to do in case they enter the water and have to self rescue. Over 4 hours in the water manoeuvring, swimming, throwing and reaching gave us the confidence to do these jobs.

This is an important milestone for the Brigade, District and Service to bolster our capabilities as an emergency service. Thank you to the Instructors, Coordinators and everyone involved to bring this together

This weekend, four of our Fire Boat Skippers attended an upskilling course in St Georges Basin, to become qualified as Rescue Boat Operators (RBO).

Flood rescue operations are a new frontier for the , allowing us to provide a surge capacity to our sister agencies following some of the devastating flood events since 2020. RFS flood rescue boats and other flood capabilities are currently being rolled out to strategic locations across the state.

Our skippers learnt the unique hazards and strategies to effectively handle vessels, operate, search and perform rescues in flood waters. This important training has gone a long way to develop both local and state wide capability.

Special thanks to everyone involved in bringing this weekend together, and the local Brigades St George’s Basin and Basin View for their hospitality!

And just like that, another big weekend wraps up for the Regentville Brigade! 👨‍🚒🔥

🏍️ Friday saw one of our Trail Bike Operators assist with a missing persons search in Bringelly, accessing terrain that’s impossible for regular vehicles.

🏘️ On Saturday we joined the celebrations with the Luke Priddis Foundation’s 20th birthday, with our 1 Bravo on display for the community to explore and learn more about what we do.

🏫 Meanwhile, our Pumper full of trainees and instructors headed to the District’s Village Firefighter course.

🎓One of our members also completed their Crew Awareness & Safety course - an important milestone within the Advanced Firefighter pathway.

🔥 With members still committed to the VF course, Sunday saw a crew head to assist the Blue Mountains District with a Hazard Reduction burn at Hazelbrook, helping our neighbours reduce the risk ahead of the fire season.
