A special moment for our school today — former student and Australian cricketer Steve O’Keefe returned to Hobartville PS. He spoke with our Years 3–6 students about his time here, his cricket journey, and what it’s really like to be famous. Steve also jumped into our brand‑new cricket nets and rolled his arm over to our school captain, Sam. A great day for our kids and our community.

This term K/1/2C have been learning about the basic needs of plants and animals, including air, water, food and shelter and how the places they live are able to meet those needs. They also learnt about the needs of a plant and followed steps to take care of his own Cress, including regular watering and sunlight.
We have also been looking after class pets called Spiny Leaf Insects. We have watched them grow, eat and drink.
We also welcomed two new students to the class this term. Welcome Raymond and Rylan!

Here’s a snippet of what 3/4M have been up to this week! In Art, we created night-time scenes featuring streetlights for striking contrast. On the basketball court, we worked together on dribbling, shooting, and scoring. In English, we tackled persuasive letter writing, sharpening our ability to convince and express our ideas clearly. We also cheered on our Spelling Bee classmates as they tackled challenging words.

Our incredible Support Unit students recently hosted a special cafe event for their families. From designing the invitations, cafe decorations, and menus, to preparing, cooking, and serving delicious treats. The students took charge every step of the way.
Students from 3/4H, 4/5C, and 5/6W were acting as servers, chefs, and drink smiths. We even had some students acting as cashiers practising receiving and exchanging money (using play money), adding a practical and fun learning experience.
The professionalism and excitement from the students was absolutely inspiring. If you missed out this time don't worry we'll be hosting the cafe again later this year. Stay tuned.
Thank you to all the families who joined us and supported our amazing students.
