A huge safety win for nursing staff at Yalata Labour Prison has been achieved thanks to the advocacy of members.

After members raised a range of concerns regarding workplace safety and facilities, including a lack of adequately safe car parking for staff, ANMF SA met directly with the employer, South Australian Prison Health Service (SAPHS) to escalate the concerns and push for action.

As a result, SAPHS has agreed to assign 10 dedicated staff carparks on site, adjacent to the gatehouse.

In addition, SAPHS has also committed to, or completed, a range of other workplace improvements, including:

✔️ Repair of the fire exit door near the Nurse Unit Manager's office
✔️ Installation of locks on clinic room cabinetry
✔️ Review of waste management processes
✔️ Review of storage arrangements
✔️ Commitment to a review of MER equipment

Today, ANMF SA proudly stands with LGBTQIA+ young people for Wear It Purple Day.

Everyone deserves to feel safe, respected and valued, regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity or expression.

As nurses, midwives and carers, we know that inclusive and affirming environments are essential for health, wellbeing and belonging. Today is an opportunity to celebrate diversity, champion inclusion and show young people that they are seen, supported and accepted.

After years of rising demand and mounting pressure, The Australian Federal Government announced a $3.7 billion investment in aged care across the nation, including the expansion of Support at Home's funding for personal care services.

For older Australians who rely on help with showering, dressing and continence support, the change is significant. From October 1, anyone with ‘personal care’ approved in their Support at Home plan will no longer face out‑of‑pocket costs for these essential services.

You may have received the survey through your maternity service, university or directly from Professor Della Forster — but if not or if missed completing it, this is your invitation to take part.

The FUCHSIA national study is exploring the sustainability of the Australian midwifery profession.

We want to hear from midwives across Australia about their health and wellbeing, their workplace experiences, why they work as midwives, and their future in the profession.

By giving voice to midwives, this study aims to help identify workforce issues and improve working conditions.
