🌿What does a thriving Robertson look like - now and into the future?

Robertson has so much going for it: strong community spirit, beautiful surroundings, and a village lifestyle many people are seeking. Like all towns, though, there are areas where thoughtful planning and collaboration can help us grow stronger and more resilient.

Here are five key focus areas shaping conversations about Robertson’s future:

🏪Local services & shopping
Access to everyday needs, like groceries, plays a big role in reducing travel, supporting local business, and strengthening community life.

🏠Housing choice
More diverse housing options can help young families, singles, and downsizing residents stay in the village they love. We're aware of just how hard it is for young families, first-time homebuyers and downsizers to find a manageable home in town, and sadly this is forcing people away from our village.

🚶Walking & accessibility
Safe footpaths, crossings, and connections make it easier for people to walk, connect, and enjoy the town centre. Where would you love to see more adequate and safer footpaths across Robbo?

🌳Parks & shared spaces
Improving parks, reserves, and creekside pathways helps protect our environment while creating places for everyone to gather and enjoy.

Over the coming months, we’ll be diving deeper into each of these (and more) topics, sharing information, ideas, and opportunities to get involved. One of the most important ingredients of a thriving village is connectedness: people sharing ideas, listening to each other, and actively shaping the future together.

🚂Not just Babe turning 30 - Our favourite heritage train is too!

Robertson has double the reason to celebrate this year! While we honour 30 years since Babe was filmed in our village, we’re also proudly celebrating 30 years of the Cockatoo Run - the much-loved heritage train that has brought thousands of visitors through our rolling green countryside, rainforest escarpments and stunning viaducts for three unforgettable decades.

This iconic journey aboard beautifully restored vintage carriages has become part of Robertson’s story. And this year, it turns 30.

To mark the milestone, a special commemorative Cockatoo Run service is rolling into Robertson this Sunday 23 Nov, complete with bagpipes, drums, community celebrations, local businesses, and a warm Highlands welcome. It’s the perfect moment to reflect on the railway heritage we’re so lucky to have, and the partnership our community has cherished for three decades.
