Last week, a group of our ATSI students proudly attended the Reconciliation Walk in Echuca as part of National Reconciliation Week.

This year’s theme, "All In", encourages all Australians to listen, learn and take meaningful action towards reconciliation. It highlights that reconciliation is a shared responsibility and that every person has a role to play in building respectful relationships and a stronger future together.

Students joined community members for a smoking ceremony before taking part in the walk through the centre of Echuca. The event concluded with a range of cultural activities and performances, providing an opportunity to celebrate culture, strengthen connections, and deepen understanding.

We are proud of our students for representing Rochester Secondary College and engaging in this important community event

Two weeks ago, our Year 7 and Year 8 students took part in the statewide Times Tables competition - and what an incredible effort it was!

Together, our students achieved an outstanding total of 67,628 correct answers, placing Rochester Secondary College 1st among secondary schools across the competition.

We would also like to recognise some exceptional individual performances:

Reece CARNEGIE – 4,141 correct answers
Lovi Joy SACLAUSA – 6,972 correct answers
Lachlan CHUGG – 8,940 correct answers

We are incredibly proud of the enthusiasm, persistence, and competitive spirit shown by all students involved. A fantastic achievement by everyone who participated!

There has been plenty of excitement around our Times Tables Rock Stars program this term, with students continuing to put their skills to the test each week.

Round 5 saw another group of students recognised for the determination and consistency they have shown while working to strengthen their multiplication skills. From improving recall speed to building confidence in the classroom, the growth students are demonstrating has been fantastic to watch.

Thank you again to Adam Doolan and Jake Childs from Doolan Finance for their ongoing support of the program and our students.

This term, the Duke of Edinburgh class has been exploring the many ways people around the world engage in physical activity and challenge themselves in outdoor and recreational pursuits.

Thursday, we headed to Bendigo to visit “The Hold” and try bouldering. Students challenged themselves physically and mentally while developing confidence, problem-solving skills and resilience.

A fantastic experience and definitely a 5-star day!

La Trobe University representative Jake Sanders visited our school last week to yarn with our First Nations students about the wide range of supports available through the university’s Indigenous Support Services program.

Jake shared valuable information about the Indigenous Pathways Program, which helps create accessible pathways into further education and employment opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. He also spoke about the RISE La Trobe Camp, giving students insight into university life, leadership opportunities, and ways to build confidence and connections with other young First Nations people.

Students were highly engaged throughout the session and appreciated hearing how Indigenous students are supported throughout their entire university journey - academically, socially, culturally, and personally. We would like to thank Jake for taking the time to visit and provide such encouraging and meaningful opportunities for our students.
