From 27 May to 3 June, we come together to celebrate National Reconciliation Week β€” a time to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to reconciliation in Australia. 🌏✨
This year's theme invites us all to reflect, connect and take meaningful action towards a more just and united nation. πŸ€πŸ’¬
Take a moment this week to:
πŸ“– Learn about the history of the land you live and work on
πŸ‘‚ Listen to First Nations voices and stories
🌱 Reflect on the steps we can all take towards reconciliation
🎨 Support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists, businesses and communities
Reconciliation is everyone's business. πŸ’› Let's walk together. πŸ‘£

When using your fireplace in winter, it’s important to be fire safe πŸ”₯
βœ…Always use a fire screen in front of an open fire.
βœ…Keep items that can burn, such as clothes horses, at least 1m away.
βœ…Extinguish open fires before leaving home or going to sleep.
βœ…Always supervise children near open fires.
βœ…Ensure ashes are cold before discarding.
βœ…Only burn dry, clean wood.

This week we celebrate National Volunteer Week where we acknowledge all of our volunteers. Volunteers come in all shapes and sizes, and this particular case ages!
Rochester Junior Fire Brigade are an example of this. Our Juniors are the first to put their hands up to help where they can not only within the brigade but where they can within the community. Our Juniors range in age from 11-15 years and now 3 of our original Juniors have transitioned across (which happens from 16) and turning out with our main brigade. To watch all of these kids develop and have such a strong willingness to help where they can with the aim to help our community makes us all immensely proud. So this National Volunteer Week also think of our younger members in the community, after all they are our future πŸ’ͺπŸš’

Did you know that almost two thirds of people who die in house fires have a
disability?
Prevent, Detect, Escape is a free online learning module to support at risk
people with planning for fire emergencies at home. The module is made for
people at increased fire risk, and for those who support or care for them.

This Sunday 17 May is IDAHOBIT - International Day Against LGBTQIA+ Discrimination. It’s a moment for us to reflect on what it means to feel truly safe and welcome where we work and volunteer.

At CFA, we are proud to say no to discrimination and stand strongly as allies to the LGBTQIA+ community today and every day πŸ’–
