๐ Moreton Bay says No to Violence ๐
On Friday, members of the Flourish Community Solutions team had the privilege of attending the Moreton Bay Say No to Violence Walk, standing alongside survivors, families, advocates, support services, community members, local MPs and Queensland Police - all united in a shared commitment to ending domestic and family violence.
With the sun shining and hundreds of people walking side by side, the event was a powerful reminder that creating safer communities takes all of us. Throughout the morning, we listened to courageous stories from survivors and community leaders, learned about innovative initiatives, and explored valuable resources designed to prevent and respond to domestic and family violence.
Our fabulous business officer Mel shared the following -
One of the most impactful moments came from Ruby Allen, founder of of Purple, who shared a message that resonated deeply:
"We get taught in school about stranger danger in public, but no one speaks about danger in the home. We need to educate kids to speak out about this."
Ruby's words highlighted the importance of listening to children, empowering young voices, and ensuring young people have the knowledge, language and support to speak up when something doesn't feel right.
We were also inspired by the incredible work of organisations including White Ribbon Australia, the Centre Against Domestic Abuse (CADA), and many others who continue to advocate for safer futures for children, young people and families.
At Flourish, we know that real change happens when communities come together to listen, learn, advocate and act. Today reinforced the importance of amplifying the voices of those with lived experience and continuing to create spaces where children and families feel seen, heard and supported.
Thank you to the organisers, speakers, survivors and advocates who shared their stories and wisdom today. Together, we can help create communities free from violence.
