With today's storm, swell and wind that will likely intensify through the night, please keep an eye on our beaches for any stranded turtles. If you do find a turtle, please do not put them back in the cold water as they will not survive or leave them unattended on the beach. Sea turtles and especially the hatchlings (which are the ones we get a lot here) are only found up north in the warmer waters. A beached sea turtle in here is either cold-stunt, sick, injured or all the above. Place them in a box or container, be wary they can bite, and do not add any water or attempt to feed them. You can hand them directly to us Naragebup - Rockingham Regional Environmental Centre, or the other turtle rescue centres Dolphin Discovery Centre in Bunbury or AQWA in Hillarys or call the Wildlife Helpline on 9474 9055.
Sea turtles, especially the loggerhead turtle, are an endangered species so every individual is rescued for rehabilitation and release counts!
Thank you all and stay safe! π’ π
