On behalf of Rocksberg-Moorina Rural Fire Brigade we extend our deepest sympathies to the family, friends and colleagues of First Officer John Blake, aged 57, of Clear Mountain Rural Fire Brigade, as they gather to farewell him today.

John joined Clear Mountain RFB in 2011, serving as Secretary (2012 - 2022), Second Officer (2013 - 2020) and First Officer from 2020 until his passing on 26 May 2026.

John was also a dedicated staff member of the Queensland Fire Department, culminating as Acting Inspector, Manager Australian Fire Danger Rating System Implementation and a well-respected Fire Behavior Analyst.

Rest easy, John. Your service and contribution will be remembered.

🔔 New smoke alarm laws are coming. 🔔

Interconnected compliant smoke alarms means when one goes off, they all go off.

All existing private homes, townhouses, units and manufactured homes require interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms by 1 January 2027.

All registered caravans and motorhomes must also be fitted with a photoelectric smoke alarm.

QFD will have a dedicated booth where they will be sharing information about volunteering, career pathways, and the vital role they play in protecting Queensland communities.

It's National Volunteer Week 🔥

A big THANK YOU to all RFSQ volunteers across Queensland.

Over 28,000 people volunteer to assist not only their own communities, but also answer the call when the wider Queensland community need support during bushfires, severe weather events and other disasters.

For over 35 years Rocksberg Moorina Rural Fire Brigade has been part of the Moreton Bay community attending fires, floods, storms and community events.

We look forward to continuing to serve our community for many more years to come and we thank you for your continued support. 💛

Today, 4 May, is International Firefighters’ Day.

As the newly appointed First Officer of our brigade, I wanted to take a moment to acknowledge the amazing volunteers I now have the privilege of serving alongside.

Rural firefighters are people who give their time freely, often after work, on weekends, through training nights, hazard reduction burns, community events, and those 2am callouts when most people are asleep. They show up when they are needed, often quietly and without fuss.

One of the things I am most proud of is the diversity within our brigade. Our members bring different skills, backgrounds, life experiences and abilities. Some live with disabilities, some contribute operationally, some support in other essential ways, but every person adds value to the team.

On International Firefighters’ Day, I want to say thank you to each and every one of our members. I am proud to serve beside you, proud of the work you do, and proud of the way you support our community.

Thank you to all firefighters, career and volunteer, here in Queensland and around the world.

Our firefighters, both career and volunteer, do an incredible job of protecting their communities. Personnel across Queensland Fire and Rescue and Rural Fire Service Queensland work tirelessly to respond to fires, floods, rescues and more. They also do vital work to educate the community and mitigate risk.

We can’t thank you enough for keeping us safe.

Today, on ANZAC Day, we pause to honour the courage, sacrifice, and spirit of all Australian and New Zealand servicemen and women—past and present.

We remember those who served, those who never returned, and the families who carry their legacy forward. Their bravery and mateship continue to shape who we are today.

Take a moment to reflect, attend a service, or simply stand in silence—because their sacrifice should never be forgotten.

Hazard reduction burns are an important part of land management — clearing debris, reducing fuel loads - in preparation for fire season.

If you're considering a clean up at your place, our volunteers and appliances are available to assist you, your property, your neighbours and your community safe.

If you’re planning a burn on your property, please make sure you:
✅ Determine if you will need a permit or not
✅ Check current fire danger ratings before you light
✅ Notify neighbours and your local brigade
✅ Have water and tools ready on site
✅ Never leave a burn unattended
