Two of our Roleystone VFRS firefighters, Harry Conlin and Ryan Sutherland, have recently headed to the United States on a 35-day deployment, to assist in efforts fighting the devastating wildfires currently burning across the country.

We’re incredibly proud of Harry and Ryan, and all volunteers across WA who have stepped up to support communities in need. They’ve paused their lives, jobs and routines to help people they have never met, in a place far from home, in conditions which will be demanding both mentally and physically.

While they’re away, their families carry their own share of the load - and we’re grateful for their support too.

From all of us at Roleystone VFRS, stay safe Harry and Ryan. We’ll see you home soon. 🔥

🪵 Don’t Forget Your Chimney This Winter 🪵

Did you know? Creosote buildup inside chimneys is a common cause of chimney fires. Regular cleaning greatly reduces the risk.

✅ Safety Tip: Have your chimney and flue inspected and cleaned at least once a year if you regularly use a wood fire. Burn only dry, seasoned timber to reduce creosote buildup.

A clean chimney helps keep your family safe and your fire burning efficiently. 🔥🚒

A reminder that AusAlert is being tested at 12 noon tomorrow 27th July.

Every phone in Australia will vibrate, play a loud siren-like sound and display an AusAlert critical alert for roughly 10 seconds.

In the future, AusAlert may be used for a range of emergencies, including bushfires or serious public safety incidents.

Just about every mobile phone in Australia...

And some smart watches and tablets too - will vibrate, play a loud siren-like sound and display an AusAlert critical alert for roughly 10 seconds on Monday 27 July 2026 at 12 noon AWST.

In the future, AusAlert may be used for a range of emergencies, including bushfires, serious public safety incidents, animal or plant diseases and pandemics.

This alert is not sent through the Emergency WA app or any other emergency services app. AusAlert is a new federal government initiative that forms part of Australia's nationally operated emergency alert system, designed to deliver warnings during serious emergencies.

Meet Chloe Gill, one of our wonderful Volunteer Firefighters!

Chloe is a mum to a six-year-old daughter and works part-time as a business manager. Since joining Roleystone VFRS, she has embraced every opportunity to learn, grow and challenge herself - most recently achieving her Road Crash Rescue qualification.

It has been fantastic to follow Chloe's journey, and we’re proud to have her in our brigade!

🔋 Lithium Battery Safety Starts at Home 🔋

Did you know? Lithium-ion batteries (found in e-bikes, e-scooters, power tools and many rechargeable devices) can catch fire if they’re damaged, overheated or charged incorrectly.

✅ Safety Tip: Always use the manufacturer’s charger, avoid charging overnight or when you’re away from home, and never charge batteries near exits.

If a lithium battery catches fire, it can spread rapidly. Charge smart and help protect your home. 🚒

🔥 Winter Fire Safety: Keep Heaters Safe 🔥

Did you know? Heating equipment is one of the leading causes of house fires during winter.

✅ Safety Tip: Keep heaters at least 1 metre away from curtains, furniture, bedding and anything that can burn. Always switch portable heaters off before leaving the room or going to bed.

A little extra space around your heater can make a big difference. Stay warm and stay safe this winter. 🚒

Roleystone VFRS is pleased to welcome Peter Lawrence as our new Captain!

Peter brings a wealth of leadership experience to the role, having served 10 years in the Navy before progressing to his current position as a General Manager.

We look forward to working alongside Peter and building on the strong foundations already in place as we continue serving the Roleystone community.
