📢 Romsey CFA | Fire Medical Response Program Alert

From today, Romsey CFA are trained and ready to respond to some Triple Zero (000) medical emergency calls as part of the CFA (Country Fire Authority)'s Fire Medical Response program.

This means when you call Triple Zero (000) in our area, CFA and Ambulance Victoria paramedics may be dispatched simultaneously – which means an ambulance and a CFA vehicle may arrive at your home.

We are proud to support this joint initiative between CFA and Ambulance Victoria to improve patient outcomes in medical emergencies like cardiac arrest.

If you see a CFA appliance at a medical emergency — that's us, doing our bit alongside our colleagues at Ambulance Victoria.

A word about passing emergency scenes!

Yesterday, Romsey CFA (Country Fire Authority) along with Ambulance Victoria and Victoria Police attended a vehicle accident on Melbourne-Lancefield Road in the overtaking lane section near Lancefield. To keep traffic flowing, we maintained one lane open and posted slow signs — but some drivers continued through at speeds that were genuinely unsafe for our crew.

We want to take a moment to explain what we're actually asking of you when you see those signs:
The law requires you to slow to 40km/h when passing emergency vehicles with lights activated. But 40 is a maximum — not a target speed. When you're directed to slow by a crew member, or when you can see people moving around a crash scene metres from your door, we're asking you to use your judgement and drop well below that.

Think of it this way: the on-scene crews are working in an outdoor workplace, right beside live traffic. They're moving equipment, checking on patients, and managing a chaotic scene — often with their backs to oncoming vehicles. A car passing at 35km/h is still a potential hazard in that environment.

We know nobody wants to be delayed. But slowing to a lower, safer speed through a 200-metre scene adds seconds to your trip — not minutes. The alternative would have seen us closing the road entirely and routing traffic on a longer, dirt road, albeit scenic, detour. This is absolutely something we'll do if we don't feel the scene can be managed safely with traffic flowing.

Please slow right down when directed. Not to 40 — to whatever speed gives the people working that scene a real margin of safety.
Thanks for listening, and for the majority of drivers who do the right thing — we appreciate it.

We understand there may have been some concern after reports of strange figures moving through the darkness under a blood red moon. We want to reassure the community that the mysterious forms spotted in full hazmat suits and breathing apparatus were not the beginning of a zombie apocalypse or alien invasion. .

We can now reveal that the full deployment of breathing apparatus and hazmat suits was in response to a critical incident discovered at the station.

Someone’s lunch. In the back of the fridge. We don’t know how long it had been there. We didn’t ask questions. 🧫☣️

🚨 Another Apology 🚨
It seems our Subaru wasn't the only thing missing something earlier this week — so was our post! 😬

A huge and very overdue thank you to Macedon Ranges Towing who supplied the donor vehicle AND towed it to us for our CFA (Country Fire Authority) and SES Gisborne Unit joint training exercise. None of it would have been possible without them and we completely forgot to give them the credit they deserve. 🙏

Macedon Ranges Towing are often on scene at the same motor vehicle accidents we attend, helping with the clean-up once we've done our bit. They're very much part of the team when things get messy on local roads.

We promise we're better at firefighting, and peeling open car roofs, than we are at remembering to tag people. 😅

Thank you Macedon Ranges Towing 🚒🚑🔧

🚨 An Important Apology 🚨

To the owner of the silver Subaru Forester parked behind Romsey Fire Station today — we are SO sorry!

Today the CFA (Country Fire Authority) and SES had arranged a joint training exercise and we each thought the other had organised a donor vehicle. By the time we realised the Subaru might not be a donor vehicle, the roof was already off. 🪚

On the bright side, the ventilation is excellent now.

In all seriousness, today the Romsey Fire Brigade, Ambulance Victoria and SES Gisborne Unit teamed up for a joint training exercise, one of our "victims" was a very willing donor car courtesy of Macedon Ranges Towing

CFA, AV and SES often meet each other in rather hectic situations where we don't get to exchange pleasantries and get to know each other - for example assisting at local motor vehicle accidents.

Today our crews got a fantastic opportunity to better understand each other's roles and equipment as well as hands-on practice with the kind of skills that can make all the difference in a multi-agency event.

A huge thanks to our SES and Ambulance Victoria colleagues for a brilliant session — great teamwork all round! 🚒🔧 🚑

Romsey Fire Brigade Supporting South Australia

Our Romsey Tanker 1 has deployed to South Australia as part of Strike Team 1822, crewed by two of our Romsey members alongside two crew from the Goldfields Group. They'll be battling a significant bushfire on the Fleurieu Peninsula that has burned more than 1,900 hectares and remains uncontrolled.

The Strike Team includes Romsey Tanker 1, Inglewood Tanker 1, Bamawm Extension Tanker 1, Watchem Ultra Heavy Tanker, Ouyen Ultra Heavy Tanker, CFA District 20 FOV and CFA Sunraysia Group FCV.

CFA strike teams are a crucial part of Australia's national emergency response network, boosting local resources with skilled volunteer firefighters and equipment, while our volunteers gain invaluable experience that strengthens our own brigade's capability when Victoria faces emergencies.

Our thoughts are with the South Australian communities impacted by these fires, and we're proud of our crew representing Romsey and the CFA in this important work.
Stay safe South Australia. 🔥🚒
