🚨Aus Alert Testing Today - 2pm AEST

Today, Monday 27 July, Australia’s new national warning system, AusAlert, is being tested across Australia. Your mobile devices, such as mobile phones, tablets and smart watches, may receive a test alert.

The test times across NSW are.
2:00 pm AEST
1:30 pm ACST (Broken Hill NSW)

The test will be a Critical Alert. Your device will vibrate and play a loud siren-like sound for around 10 seconds before stopping, even if it is on ‘silent’ or 'do not disturb'. The message will clearly identify itself as a test and no action is required. If this could disrupt you or cause you or a loved one to feel unsafe, please turn off your mobile devices or switch them to aeroplane mode before the scheduled test time in your location, and leave them off for at least one hour. If you don’t receive the AusAlert national test, this is fine too, as it’s just a test.

This week Maitland Vale/Luskintrye brigade held its 2026 Annual General Meeting.

We congratulate the newly elected position holders and extend our appreciation to all the returning officers. We thank all position holders for their ongoing support, commitment and leadership to the brigade.

During the meeting, members who assisted during the 2022-2023 NSW flood events were presented with their citations in recognition of their service. We are incredibly proud of their dedication and the support they provided to communities during a challenging time.

We are grateful for the new Melville Milton bridge to open with dual lanes and no weight limit. This allows the brigade to access with all vehicles types to Aberglasslyn and surrounding suburbs quicker.

⚠️ An initial Flood Watch for the Hunter and parts of the Mid North Coast has been issued.

From overnight Thursday into Friday, minor flooding is possible along the Paterson and Williams Rivers.

Minor flooding is possible along the Manning and Gloucester, Goulburn and Hunter Rivers and Wollombi Brook from Friday.

Please be advised that NSW Rural Fire Service - Hunter Valley is taking advantage of favourable weather conditions to complete this important Hazard Reduction. It is currently producing a significant amount of smoke and can be seen throughout the area. This smoke may settle into the valley later this evening into tomorrow morning. Please call 000 to report any unattended fires.

The NSW RFS will take advantage of favourable conditions over the coming days to undertake a planned hazard reduction burn. The hazard reduction (HR) burn is scheduled for Saturday 9/5 and Sunday 10/5. The HR will be in the Stanhope area. The smoke from this burn may settle in the surrounding area over the next few days. 📍 Located on Maitland Vale Road (just over the Hunter River from Aberglasslyn)
📅 We meet the second Tuesday of each month at 7pm

You don’t need experience—just a willingness to help. We provide training in:
🔥 Bush & village firefighting
⛑ First aid
🫁 Breathing apparatus
…and more!

Not keen on firefighting? That’s okay—there are plenty of other roles like communications, catering, logistics, planning, and aviation support. There’s a place for everyone.
