🚨 Why do Emergency Services sometimes turn their lights off? 🚨

Emergency Service vehicles respond to a wide variety of situations, from 000 calls to requests for assistance from other crews.

When an incident is first reported, it often triggers a large response. But emergencies are dynamic, as the situation comes under control, not all responding vehicles are required. When that happens, crews receive what’s called a ‘stop message’, a direction that their response is no longer needed.

Simply put, that’s when we switch off the lights, turn around, and head back to station, ready for the next call.

So next time you see an emergency vehicle turn off its lights or sirens, it doesn’t mean they’ve ‘given up’, it means the situation is being managed, and those resources are now free to respond elsewhere.

Today crew from Rosebud and Melton Fire Brigade - CFA have moved up to Dromana Fire Brigade while their members attend live fire training at the training grounds.

Thanks to Mt Martha Fire Brigade for the loan of the Tanker.

Crews will provide local coverage including rescue response if something happens in Dromana and surrounding areas.
Another way we help support our neighbours!

🔥🚒 Caravan Fire - Capel Sound🚒🔥

Crews were called to support FRV Pumper 95 to a caravan fire spread to a car on Friday morning.
Crews arrived to the station with a blanket of smoke over it which confirmed the fire.
With strong winds at the time crews worked hard on arrival to ensure the fire did not spread to further exposures and was bought under control quickly.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.

A great team effort by all who attended to support, FRV Pumper 95, The Rye Fire Brigade, Victoria Police & Ambulance Victoria

Each year, we see an increase in the number of chimney fires during the colder months.

Keep your home safe this winter by:

🔦 Using a torch to check for creosote build-up or obstructions in the chimney before lighting your fireplace.

🧹 Cleaning your chimney and flue every year.

🚨 Making sure you have working smoke alarms.

🔥 Knowing your home fire escape plan.
