Vale Firefighter John Lancaster

John first joined the CFA in 1985 as a junior brigade member and later a Firefighter at Scorsby Brigade.Moving to Boronia Brigade in 1999 and again to Rye Brigade in 2006.

Despite moving around the fire service was never far from John's mind. John then moved north to Airlie Beach in Queensland quickly continuing his service to the community with the Queensland Fire Department.

Finding his way south again John joined the Rosebud brigade in 2018 until his passing, accruing over 20 years in the fire services.

John also served the Peninsula community with the Southern Peninsula Rescue Squad.
John was due to be awarded the National Medal and recieved the Brigade Management Team award last year for his endless work behind the scenes.

John passed suddenly at home on Tuesday 12th.
Serving till the end, John responded to an alarm of fire earlier that day, answering a call from the community for help one last time.

Our thoughts are with John's family, friends and colleagues.

Rest in peace Johnny Bomber.

John's funeral will be held on Friday 29/05/2026 at 2pm - New Peninsula Baptist Church Cnr Boneo Rd and The Drive, Rosebud (Dress Uniform for Service Members)

🔥🔥Hot Prop Training 🔥🔥
Our crew had an opportunity to attend the hot prop at Tyabb this week. This was a great opportunity for some of our recruit members to experience live fire in a controlled environment.
This is a great way for members to get training in a live fire environment.
A great night had by all who were able to attend.

🚒🔥 House Fire - Rosebud 🔥🚒

Just after 7 pm last night, Rosebud along with Dromana Fire Brigade were paged to support FRV Pumper 95 at a house fire in the Avenue’s.

On arrival crews found a fully involved house which was determined to be abandoned. Crews worked quickly to bring the fire under control. The cause of the fire is unknown and it’s been handed over to Victoria police.

As always a great job by all crew on scene working together. FRV, CFA, Victoria Police, United Energy, Multinet Gas

A Total Fire Ban has been declared for the Central, Mallee, North Central, North East, Northern Country, West & South Gippsland and Wimmera districts for Wednesday 11 February 2026.

As we are in the Central District, this includes our local area.

No fires can be lit, or be allowed to remain alight, in the open air from 12:01 AM until 11:59 PM.
