• advise and educate consumers and people in the building industry about the state’s building legislation and national standards
• register and license businesses and occupations
• conciliate disputes between consumers and traders, tenants and landlords, and consumers and building practitioners
• enforce and ensure compliance with consumer laws, building laws and gas and electricity safety standards.

CBOS has recently issued an urgent hazard alert to licensed plumbers working on hot water cylinders following a significant incident that resulted in serious injury.

Any work on a hot water cylinder, including:
- Replacement of a hot water cylinder
- Valve maintenance or replacement
- Electrical repairs
- Any associated plumbing work must be carried out by appropriately licensed tradespeople.

Attempting to undertake this work without the required licence and expertise can result in:
❌ Serious injury or death
❌ Significant property damage
❌ Potential impacts on insurance claims
❌ Legal penalties for carrying out unlicensed work

If your hot water system requires repair or replacement, always engage a licensed professional.

🔎 Find a licensed plumber through the CBOS website: www.cbos.tas.gov.au

Instead, scammers stole his $20,000 deposit.

Stories like Mannu’s are a reminder that scammers can target everyday transactions when we least expect it.

Every story shared could help protect another person. No one’s just a number.

A text. A phone call. A code.

That’s all it took for scammers to steal enough money from Lindy to leave her
in debt.

“They rush you through it and make you panic.”

Behind every scam report is a real person and a real story. No one’s just a
number.
