As Queensland’s higher risk bushfire period approaches, it’s important to stay across the Fire Danger Rating for your area.

The FDR on our Fire Danger Sign is updated daily and reflects how severe a bushfire COULD be IF one started and how difficult it would be to contain.

🟢 Moderate: Stay up to date and be ready to act.
🟡 High: Decide what you’ll do if a fire starts and be alert during heightened fire conditions.
🟠 Extreme: Make sure your property is fire ready and, if a fire starts, take immediate action.
🔴 Catastrophic: Leave bushfire risk areas. Stay safe by getting to a safer location in the morning or the night before.

Every year, our brigade looks forward to taking part in the First Responders vs Russell Island State School soccer game for the terrific Turtle Shield. 🐢⚽
This year we teamed up with the police and Ambos for another fantastic day of fun, laughter, and community spirit.
We always love attending events like this and connecting with our local community. A huge congratulations to the students , who claimed the Turtle Shield this year with a nail-biting 7–6 win! 🏆
Well done to everyone who played — and thank you to the school for having us. 👏

Last night’s training saw a great turnout of crew, with everyone putting in a fantastic effort.
Training focused on a bushfire scenario, where the crew practised relaying and branch handling, helping to build and maintain essential skills for real-life incidents.
Great work by all involved, and thank you to everyone who attended and continues to dedicate their time to training and keeping our community safe.

This weekend, the brigade attended our yearly Advanced Resuscitation and Oxygen Therapy course.
This important training helps our crew build and maintain advanced first aid skills, ensuring we are prepared to respond when our community needs us most. Regular training like this allows us to stay confident, capable, and ready to provide the best possible care in emergency situations.
A huge thank you to Mindy from Totally Sick First Aid, who visits our island each year to run this fantastic course for us. We truly appreciate your knowledge, time, and ongoing support.
We would also like to say a big thank you to the wonderful girls at the IGA deli for providing our lunches during the course — your generosity is greatly appreciated.

Today our crew had the pleasure of being invited to Russell Island State School for their Thank a First Responder Day. We were proud to join the Police, Ambulance, and SES for this special event.
A big thank you to all the children and teachers for hosting such a wonderful day. Our crew had a fantastic time meeting everyone and sharing what we do to help keep our community safe.

We would like to take a moment to thank all of the first responders across our island who work tirelessly, day and night, to help keep our community safe.
Whether responding to emergencies, providing medical care, protecting lives and property, or supporting those in need, your dedication, commitment, and service do not go unnoticed.
Thank you for everything you do for our community. We are grateful for your hard work, sacrifice, and willingness to answer the call whenever it comes.

Warning area: South Stradbroke Island, Russell Island, Macleay Island and surrounding areas



Smoke is currently affecting South Stradbroke Island, Russell Island, Macleay Island and surrounding areas. This is from a hazard reduction burn in the Naree Budjong Djara National Park, North Stradbroke Island. This fire is under control.



What you should do:

- Stay inside and close windows and doors.

- Keep respiratory medication close by.

- Avoid driving through smoke if you can.

- Watch out for firefighters working in the area.

- Do not fly drones around the fire. Drones affect air operations.



Impacts:

- Smoke can make it hard for some people to breathe.

- Smoke can make it hard to see when you are driving.

- No properties are at risk.

Tonight the crew had a fun night training while keeping their skills sharp 🚒
Training included patient handling, blindfolded pump operations, shipping standpipe, six chock bowling, radio communications, and even the officers joined in with the challenge of picking up an egg using the jaws of life 🥚🔥
A great night full of teamwork, laughs, and hands-on learning!

Another great night of training for the crew tonight. 🚒
The brigade practised operating pumps on each appliance, along with setting up and running the extraction fan. The night finished off with training in de-energising fuses safely.
Great teamwork, hands-on learning and building skills to help keep our community safe. 👏🔥
