The Bush Fire Danger Period across the Mid-Western Regional Council LGA ended at midnight last night.

While landholders no longer require a fire permit, you are still required to notify the and your neighbours at least 24 hours before lighting a fire. To notify the RFS, please complete the online form available on our website: www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/notify

Please note that in some areas, you may still need an environmental permit from your local council or permit from Fire and Rescue NSW. You must also be aware of restrictions on the size and materials permitted in burn piles.

A cultural burn has been organised for this weekend, May 2nd & 3rd, by Newco. It will be on their block of land on the NE side of Mt. BinBen, Kelgoola.
All regulations have been complied with including notification to neighbouring landowners.
If you see smoke in this area please don’t call 000. There will be 2 appliances on site.

Crews are currently responding to multiple new fires to the north of Rylstone towards Bylong after more lightning strikes have ignited more new fires.

Please keep a close eye out for new fires that may have started and dial 000 immediately if you see an unattended fire.

Yesterday afternoon, an unauthorised drone flying in the vicinity of the Attunga Fire, burning north of Tamworth, forced the to ground aircraft working in the area.

You must not fly a drone during firefighting operations. Flying drones near fires is a major safety concern to firefighters and aircraft, which can result in heavy fines or penalties for the drone pilot. If you fly your drone, we can’t fly our aircraft.

Fire Updates 3.30pm Saturday 28 December

Mountain Street, Charbon 🟨Advice 🟨 Being Controlled
This fire is approximately 12ha and has been burning in inaccessible terrain. A dozer is currently working to establish containment lines around the perimeter of the fire. Two helicopters are assisting the crews on the ground providing intel and bucketing water to slow the spread of the fire.

Dolomite Road Fire: 🟨Advice 🟨 Under Control
This fire is approximately 2ha in size. It is now under control with crews patrolling the fire as required over the coming days.

With both fires there are no threats to nearby residents at this time but anyone in the vicinity is encouraged to monitor conditions.

We are still concerned about other lightning strikes ⚡️that are yet to pop out so continue to ask landholders to remain patrol their properties.
