St. Arnaud, we just want to tell you the following....

From all along Dundas St to the end of Burnside Road. From Hopetoun St to Wellington Street. From all the streets, roads and lanes in St. Arnaud, on June 1st (or even beforehand) we want to hear you all go BEEP, BEEP, BEEP!

No, we don't want to hear you swearing, we want to hear you all testing your smoke alarms!

A smoke alarm is a great piece of equipment, but only when it works.

We are asking that you give your smoke detectors a bit of a clean up (remove the dust and cobwebs) and push that test button. Make sure it makes a beep, beep, beep noise.

Are you concerned that you can't reach the button? No need for a ladder. Grab a broom handle, stay firmly on the floor and push the button with that.

If you need more information about smoke alarm testing or you may need a bit of a hand testing yours, please contact us.

This National Volunteer Week the St. Arnaud Fire Brigade wants to ask you a question....

Is this your year to Volunteer?!

St Arnaud Fire Brigade is a 100% Volunteer organisation and we are looking for more new recruits to come and join us - especially if you are available to respond Monday to Friday, 6am - 6pm.

Volunteering is a great way to learn exciting new skills, connect with different people and play a vital role in your community.

There are many ways you can lend a hand - fighting fires, educating your community on fire safety or supporting the team from behind the scenes. There is a lot more to the CFA than putting water on fires!

𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗩𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸

This National Volunteer Week the St Arnaud Fire Brigade would like to sincerely thank all our local SES volunteers!

Each year we celebrate Wear Orange Wednesday (WOW Day), a national day of thanks to the thousands of SES volunteers who serve their communities 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Locally the St Arnaud Unit responds to road crash rescue, storms, floods, building damage, missing person searches and many more incidents.

Just like our Brigade the SES is 100% run by volunteers.

St Arnaud Fire Brigade thanks our SES colleagues for their time, dedication and expertise. We even made the attached photo extra orange as a small token of thanks!

National Volunteer Week runs May 18th - 24th, and this year's theme is "Your Year to Volunteer".

This National Volunteer Week the St Arnaud Fire Brigade would like to sincerely thank all our volunteers!

Our Brigade is 100% run by volunteers with many people dedicating their time and skills towards our brigade and community.

Responding to emergencies is only the start.

St Arnaud Fire Brigade also supports community events, deliver fire safety education, fundraising, training, and much more.

However, volunteers are the heart of the entire St Arnaud Community, not just the St Arnaud Fire Brigade.

The commitment, teamwork, and willingness shown by the volunteers of our town helps the entire community to thrive.

Imagine, if you can, St Arnaud without volunteers!

• Lions and Rotary would fold
• There would be no movies at the Town Hall.
• St. Arnaud wouldn't have any sports teams.
• The RSL would be just another empty building.
• Music from the Citizens Band and Pipe Band would no longer be enjoyed.
• The St Arnaud Agricultural Show would be a long, gone memory. • The CFA couldn't turn out.
....and these are just a few examples!

When it comes to finding your house in an emergency, the size of your house number does matter.

Seconds count! If your property number is not visible from the road, then it is harder for St. Arnaud's Firefighters to find you.

By making sure your property number can be seen clearly from the street, you are helping us reach you faster.

To ensure your property number is visible

✅check that your property number is correct, and is easy to read

🌿trim any plants or trees that block the view

🌛use a reflective number to ensure your number is visible at day or night

🎨use strong, contrasting colours for your house numbers so they stand out from the background

➕put up larger, easier-to-see numbers if the current ones are too small to read from across the road.

Today the St. Arnaud Fire Brigade were paged out to a call of trees on fire in Traynors Lagoon. The Brigade quickly turned out.

Some investigations soon found that this was a controlled burn-off by a landowner.

Once this was established our Brigade's response was cancelled and we returned to station.

We ask you to please, 𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞 register your burn offs. Registering your burn offs notifies 000 and it will reduce uneccessary Fire Brigade turnouts.

Last night (4th May, 2026), St Arnaud Fire Brigade held its Bi-Annual General Meeting, where members elected the brigade’s leadership team for the next two years.

The following roles will take effect from 1 July 2026.

Slipped in before the end of the day!

Today, the 4th of May, is International Firefighters Day.

International Firefighters Day occurs on May 4th as it is St Florian’s Day, the patron saint of firefighters.

Florian (250-304AD) was a high ranking Roman Army officer in the Roman province
of Noricum. His superiors said he was good with people, a real problem solver, and a dedicated hardworker.

Roman firefighters belonged to the Equestrian Class (Knight). They were highly trained and paid. Distinguished from the regular Roman soldiers by their green tunics. Florian died for his Christian faith by being burnt, making him a Martyr. This elevated him to patron to all things in the prevention of danger from fire.
