*** DOUBLE TROUBLE - DRUG DRIVERS ***

On the 30th May, 2026, at approximately 8.05pm members from the Wellington Highway Patrol intercepted a driver on the Sale-Maffra road in Sale as part of planned operations targeting Drug Drivers.

A Sale man in his 20s tested positive to methamphetamine. Sadly this was the man's second offence and will now go to the Sale Magistrate's Court where he will face a 12-month loss of licence .

A Sale woman in her 20s attended to pick up her stranded partner. Wellington Highway Patrol members have recognised the same car in Reeve Street , Sale a short time later and have intercepted her, she too has then tested positive for methamphetamine.

She was given a $611 fine and will now lose her license for 6 months

Safe to say Wellington Highway Patrol members were left scratching their heads at how the message is not getting through. Hopefully the punishment may curb this dangerous behaviour!!!

***E-BIKE IMPOUND - SALE ***

On the 29th May, 2026 at approximately 9pm, members from the Wellington Highway Patrol observed numerous e-bikes attempting to bait police on Gibsons Road in Sale.

One rider a 17-year-old boy from Sale was assisted off the bike by police. To make matters worse he had already received a caution by police for riding an e-bike only months earlier.

The 17-year-old will appear before a Children's Court for unlicensed riding, use an unregistered and unsafe motorbike.

The boy's e-bike was impounded on the night and will cost him $950.00 to get it out.

The others who attempted to flee were swiftly caught minutes later and received cautions for unlicensed riding for their first offence.

Wellington Highway Patrol are cracking down illegal e-bikes with covert operations planned.

*** SECURE YOUR BIKE ***

Wellington police service area is currently seeing a rise in opportunistic Bike thefts.

At all times - secure your bikes - lock them in a shed or garage or a bike lock when at home and keep the bikes behind a fence or gate and not visible from the street or front of the house.

When you're out and about - use a good quality bike lock to help minimise the theft of bikes.
