NDIS Bill Update for Parents

The Securing the NDIS for Future Generations Bill has passed the Senate. Key changes include:

Support funding: The government may change funding for certain supports. Only participants needing continuous 24-hour care may request limited variations—and these cannot currently apply to therapy or social and community participation funding.

Functional capacity assessments: People can be assessed while using commonly used aids, such as glasses or walking sticks. Children can receive age-appropriate assistance.

Plan reassessments: Participants can request an unscheduled reassessment when circumstances significantly change, including expected transitions such as leaving school or moving out of home.

Family support expectations: The NDIS must recognise when a child needs substantially more support than another child of the same age. It must also consider the risk of physical or emotional harm to family members and unpaid carers.

Future eligibility: From 1 January 2028, some new applicants who can receive support through another compensation or service system may not qualify for the NDIS. Existing participants will generally be protected.

New plans: Framework plans are expected to begin from April 2027 and may include price increases and plan-management funding.
Provider incentives banned: Providers cannot offer cash, gift cards, alcohol, to***co or electronic devices to encourage participants to use their services.

New penalties: Stronger penalties will apply for fraud, misleading information, destroying records and nominee misconduct.
Debt protections: The NDIA must notify people before raising a debt and allow participants 28 days to respond and provide other evidence.

Whistleblowers: People reporting wrongdoing will receive stronger legal protection.

The most important changes for families relate to plan reassessments, recognition of excessive caring responsibilities and protection from carer harm.

🎨🖤💛❤️ The creative spirit has been flowing at Sale and District Specialist School this week!

Although we’ll be on school holidays during NAIDOC Week, our students took the opportunity to celebrate this year’s theme, “The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy,” while also recognising 50 years of NAIDOC.

Our classrooms came alive with beautiful artwork, storytelling, creativity, and meaningful conversations as students explored and celebrated the rich cultures, histories and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

We are incredibly proud of the amazing art, thoughtful stories and enthusiasm our students shared throughout the week. What a wonderful way to honour 50 years of NAIDOC and celebrate the strength, resilience and culture that continues to inspire us all.

Happy NAIDOC Week to our school community! 🖤💛❤️

❄️✨ A huge congratulations to all of our Senior School students who participated in our very first School Formal! ✨❄️

Our Winter Wonderland Formal was a tremendous success, and it was wonderful to see everyone enjoying such a special evening together.

Students should be incredibly proud of the hard work and dedication that went into making this magical event possible. From designing invitations and creating decorations to organising snacks, seating plans, table arrangements, and the music playlist, every detail reflected their commitment and teamwork.

Everyone looked absolutely amazing on the night, and the pride and excitement throughout the room made the event even more memorable.

A sincere thank you to all staff members who generously volunteered their time and support to help make the evening such a success.

We would also like to give a special shout-out to Overcoming Obstacles for providing and serving delicious finger food throughout the night.

The biggest sign of success? Students are already asking when the next formal will be! 🎉
