UPDATE: Cheeky Pelican vs Val.

Earlier this week Pelican feeder Val whilst on duty had a run in with one of the pelicans - trying to help himself to the fish bin.
Val is doing well and back to feeding the next day! ✨️🪸

Late last month, a pelican was caught to assess an injury we noticed on its pouch. Lisa, our pelican feeder on duty, worked alongside the Westernport Pelican Study Group and Phillip Island Nature Parks to safely capture the pelican for evaluation. With the help of Newhaven Vets, the bird underwent a few days of observation.

We’re happy to share that after monitoring its recovery, the pelican was released, with its wound healing on its own and no need for surgery. While some wounds heal naturally, it’s important to assess these injuries to ensure their safety and well-being.

Thank you to everyone who helped, and to our local vets for their expertise in caring for our feathered friends!
