On Friday we welcomed Uncle Richie from Budbudda Dreaming who spent time with our Aboriginal students in the yarning circle. He shared stories and together they made music with didgeridoos and clapping sticks. It is an absolute highlight for these lucky students. Thank you Uncle Richie!

Wednesday 27 May was National Simultaneous Story Time where all students around Australia read the same book at the same time. This year we read Luna Roo the Kangaroo Baller by Adam Jackson and Adrian Lloyd. A great story capturing the spirit of rising to a challenge with heart and grit. SHPS students were treated to an enactment of the story in the library. There was much excitement when Luna Roo burst onto the scene and brought the story to life while two pink galahs commentated from the sidelines, in a celebration of courage, self-belief, and pushing through when things get tough.

On Tuesday, 26th May the Sandy Hollow student leadership team joined over 600 other students in Newcastle for the GRIP leadership conference. They all represented the school with pride and everyone accepted little challenges or opportunities to step out of their comfort zone to become a better leader for us back at school.

On Wednesday SHPS welcomed Mick from Muswellbrook Shire Council who kindly donated a Vegepod and some more supplies to further improve our Community Garden. The students really enjoyed the challenge of building the Vegepod and we look forward to growing more fresh produce to share.

On Friday SHPS students gathered at the corner park to participate in Walk Safely to School Day! . This annual event encourages primary school children across Australia to build regular walking and active transport habits into their daily routines for better health, concentration, and road safety. Students walked safely to school with Mrs B, Mrs Hayne and Stacey. Students enjoyed the experience, as most of our students travel to school on the bus, or by car due to distance, but it is always good to review road safety rules...

Today we welcomed Mr Steve Carter from Denman Lions Club to SHPS and were presented with a brand new CPR training manikin. This initiative by the Lions Club aims to ensure that the life-saving training that students receive on an annual basis can be practised throughout the year at school. SHPS students will certainly be confident to perform CPR if the need ever arises. Thank you Denman Lions Club, we truly do appreciate your generosity!

Our 3-6 class attended Muswellbrook Shire Council and Sustainable Futures - Muswellbrook's Sustainability Day on Wednesday, where they proudly shared the initiatives we are doing at SHPS to care for the environment. Over 100 students, teachers and volunteers took part in Council’s inaugural Sustainability Day, enjoying hands-on environmental activities including gardening, biodiversity, wildlife education and more. SHPS students talked about our efforts to reduce waste, including recycling and composting, and how we grow food to share in our community garden. They also talked about the delicious things we get to make with food from the garden during cooking with Mrs B. The students enjoyed talking about how our bees help our garden and students from other schools loved taste-testing some of our delicious honey!
The day was a fantastic opportunity to learn from others, share our ideas, and celebrate sustainability!

What an absolutely fabulous morning we had today in support of Australia's Biggest Morning Tea. Together we raised over $1500, which will go to The Cancer Council and those impacted by cancer. Colleen Bass and Marion Bailey from the Sandy Hollow Coffee Club donated an amazing $1071.25. Thank you! A huge thank you to the beautiful community members and families who joined us for a cuppa and some delicious treats under the COLA. Congratulations to all the lucky raffle winners and the winner of the Lolly Guessing Competition who pipped Mrs B at the post to take home the prize!
