New Members Always Welcome
Ask anyone in a volunteer fire brigade what they struggle to obtain the most and the answer will always be "new members". Without fire fighters to man them, appliances are useless and without administration officers a brigade cannot be run day to day. Regardless of the amount of time you can commit to a brigade, your availability to attend fires or your age, gender or ph
ysical ability, if you volunteer to join a fire brigade you will always be both welcomed and needed. Becoming involved with your local volunteer bush fire brigade is a challenging and rewarding experience. Fighting fires requires skills and experience which you are unlikely to have needed before or know that you possess. Joining
Joining your local fire brigade is as easy as contacting a brigade officer. Sawyers Valley brigade can be contacted here or you may phone the Captain on 0417 970 895. If you would like to look around the brigade, its equipment and station or meet other members, the station is manned every Saturday morning from 9:30am. Fire fighters receive expert training in a diverse disciplines, from basic fire fighting, wild fire behaviour, leadership, emergency driving and first aid. Many of these skills can be transferred to other areas of your life including the work place. Training costs are covered by the Emergency Services Levy and many training courses award qualifications or certification. Many of the courses are available from the Mundaring Firefighters School (MFS) which is fully accredited to deliver many Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) courses as well as MFS developed courses.
