The fire evacuation drill at Sawyers Valley Primary School today was made all that more real to life with the arrival of firefighters and a fire engine! The students were able to look inside the fire engine and try their hand at working the fire hose. Thank you to the Mount Helena Volunteer Bushfire Brigade for your assistance with the drill today and with the development of our bushfire evacuation plan.

The festival of Book Week continued today with our parade and dress up day. So many fabulous costumes to showcase the range of literature our students enjoy. Ms Collopy, our principal, was the conductor of the symphony of stories and book characters at the forefront of a wonderful celebration.
The buzz continued on into the day with our classroom walkthroughs. So many families spent time with their children to view the beautiful work and learning environments.
The Bake Sale co-ordinated by the Year 2/3 classrooms was a huge success and raised a considerable amount of funds to go towards creating homes for native animals in our school.
Thank you to all of the Sawyers Valley families and staff who helped to make today such a success!

Book Week is in full swing at Sawyers Valley Primary School and yesterday the students participated in the most engaging sessions facilitated by artists Leah and Scott. They were provided with techniques to make characters come alive through illustrations and soon became motivated to produce their own artworks ranging from character portraits by the early childhood students to comic strips by our senior students! Leah and Scott were very impressed with the creativity of our students and the work they produced was amazing!

Last week was National Science Week! The children in Early Childhood explored the properties of water and created a Water World and investigated how they could make water flow from one space to fill another. They also discovered how they could turn water into foam.
The Year 2/3 students participated in Scitech’s virtual excursions each day. They also visited Jarrah Creek to do some observational drawings, noticing changes as the season moves into Djilba.
Other students joined CSIRO’s storyline and painted Bear, a character from ‘Bear to the Rescue’.
Even the staff were treated to a celebratory cake and a quiz after school by our Science specialist teacher Mrs Addison!

Hills Education Community Science Challenge

Our SVPS team of three Year 6 students had a fantastic time taking part in the Hills Education Community Science Challenge!
The first challenge saw the students design and construct a seed pod capable of carrying seeds and dispersing them when dropped from a height of 4 metres. Their creativity, teamwork and problem-solving skills were put to the test!
The second challenge involved chemical and physical testing of soil samples to determine which soil was safe and fertile enough to support plant growth.
It was wonderful to see our students embracing the challenges, working collaboratively and putting their scientific thinking into action. We are so proud of their enthusiasm and effort!

This week we celebrated 100 Days at School!!
The children from Kindergarten to Year 3 have been counting since Day 1 and were very excited to acknowledge Day 100!
They made Day 100 crowns and glasses, fished for numbers 1-100 and placed them on a 100 grid, worked as teams to stack 100 cups, dressed as 100 year olds, created with 100 pieces of construction materials and made 100 bread and 100 cheerio bracelets (always the favourites 😊)
So much learning about numbers! Now to see if we can get to 200 days before the end of the year!

Have you enrolled your child for Kindergarten 2027?
Sawyers Valley Primary School is welcoming children who are turning 4 years old between 1st July 2026 to 30th June 2027 to enrol into our holistic early childhood program where the children’s capabilities, culture and curiosities are at the foundation.
Our early childhood educators understand that play is a child’s most serious work and is fundamental to development and future success.
Learning experiences are a blend of child- led and educator facilitated pedagogy where relationships and a love of learning are paramount.
Prospective families are encouraged to book a tour of our environments and our current families who already know the benefits of beginning their child’s education at Sawyers Valley, pop into the office and enrol for next year.
We can’t wait to begin this journey with you and your children. 🌻
