One of the biggest misconceptions about the Rural Fire Service is "I don't have enough time." In reality, the NSW RFS offers flexible opportunities that allow volunteers to contribute in ways that fit their schedules. The Seahampton Rural Fire Brigade is currently seeking FIVE new members to join our dedicated team. If you reside in Seahampton, West Wallsend, Holmesville, Cameron Park, Barnsley, or Edgeworth, we encourage you to consider volunteering with us.

Our brigade, located at 40 George Booth Drive in Seahampton, is made up of approximately 25 volunteers who respond to between 150-200 calls each year. As a volunteer, you'll be part of a professional, well-trained team that plays a critical role in community safety and emergency response.

If you're over 18, possess a can-do attitude, and have some time to spare, we'd love to hear from you.

On Saturday Cameron Park and Seahampton brigades were lucky enough to be able to attend an inter agency training scenario with Fire and Rescue NSW and NSW Ambulance.

A simulated bus accident was the scenario, RFS crews provided fire protection as well as providing casualties inside the bus.

At 1643 our squad was activated to a persons trapped two vehicle collision at the roundabout of John Renshaw Drive and George Booth Drive at Buchanan.
Crews were on route when the reports of a second single vehicle collision on George Booth Drive came in, it was reported no persons were trapped in this collision.
Our volunteers that responded from Kurri Kurri station arrived on scene of the two vehicle incident and it was confirmed that one person remained in one of the vehicles.
Whilst being treated by NSW Ambulance medical team, our volunteers used hydraulic cutters to create easier access for the casualty to be extricated on to a spine board.
Our volunteers from Cessnock arrived on scene to find our team members had this scenario under control, so they proceeded to the second incident to assist with traffic control alongside NSW Rural Fire Service members.
They remained on scene for a while assisting with traffic control until the vehicle was removed via tow truck and all other emergency service vehicles had departed.

Can we please remind people that the scene of a motor vehicle collision, roadworks and other incidents will have people working in the vicinity of traffic, their lives are in danger in doing so which is why you should reduce your speed when passing these incidents.
Please reduce your speed in and around these incidents to keep everyone involved safe.
