Sunrise TV Special 📺 ☀️

If you were up early this morning you may have spotted our infamous D Platoon firefighters on Sunrise on Channel 7.

We attended the Fire and Rescue NSW Emergency Services Academy at Orchard Hills along with our buddies from Fire and Rescue NSW Station 83 Riverstone to demonstrate the capabilities of our agency and give some useful fire safety tips to the community.

As to be expected, the best looking firefighters were at the front.....that's why we were in the back row 😁

We regret to advise of the death of one of our firefighters at a house fire at Grose Vale, north-west of Sydney, this morning.

The firefighter was among the first crews responding to the house, which became engulfed in flames, on Grose Vale Road just before 8am.

Our thoughts are with family, friends and colleagues at this tragic time.

Today the crew from Seven Hills was sent to standby at Richmond Fire station whilst their primary fire truck was getting some mechanical upgrades done.

Whilst there along with Fire and Rescue NSW Station 082 Richmond, Station 081 Windsor. and Londonderry Rural Fire Brigade we were responded to a grass fire on Blacktown Rd.

Even after all this rain, it just shows that, with a bit of heat and some wind, fires can start and take hold.

It's a timely reminder to make sure you know your risk and have a plan for what to do during a fire.

HIGH FIRE DANGER - BE READY TO ACT

The fire danger in Greater Sydney for Monday 14th November has been rated HIGH.

Even though we have had significant periods of wet weather throughout the year, the recent warmer temperatures, lower humidity and winds are quickly drying fuels and increasing the risk of fire to communities.

📌 There’s a heightened risk. Be alert for fires in your area.

📌 Decide what you will do if a fire starts.

📌 If a fire starts, your life and property may be at risk. The safest option is to avoid bush fire risk areas.

📌That means knowing your risk and having a plan for what to do during a fire. You can make your plan online in as little as five minutes at www.myfireplan.com.au.

Today the crew from Seven Hills took advantage of the wonderful weather and undertook some training in working at heights, and specifically around repairing damaged roofs.

This involved setting up ropes accross the roof to keep the crew safe as they walk along the roof and then unfolding and securing a tarpaulin over the damaged section.

Training like this ensures our skills are up to date and thst we can be prepared for any incident we might be called to.

PLEASE! SLOW DOWN!

Everyone wants to go home safe to their families after work and we are no different.

We work in many dangerous situations including on roads at traffic accidents.

Recently whilst attending to a crash many drivers felt it was ok to continue at speed past our fire truck and the accident. Despite our flashing lights being on, our electronic 40kmh sign amd our large fixed 40kmh sign being displayed.

Did you also know, on roads with a speed limit of 80kph and under its still a legal requirement to slow down to 40kmh when passing an emergency vehicle that is displaying flashing lights.

It's dangerous enough working on these roads. So please, if you're passing an emergency vehicle that has its lights flashing, slow down to 40kph and keep everyone safe.
