The four bin system…

At a recent council meeting I put forward the case that councillors had a responsibility to the public to fight for better rubbish collection.

If a council can’t get “rates, rubbish and local responsibilities” right, then there’s a serious problem.

We might be diverting some green waste from landfill, but I would describe that as a long way from “success”.

At last nights council meeting I fought hard against ongoing speed limit reductions across our shire.

Here’s a short clip which gives a pretty accurate summary.

Unfortunately, not all councillors agreed and the speed reduction target was passed 5 to 4.

And the entire meeting can be viewed here (with road safety discussion starting at 48:52sec)

Today I attended a listening post in Ruffy for the Victorian parliamentary bushfire inquiry.

And although it’s early days, I’m pretty confident this inquiry is going to amount to nothing.

The level of disinterest, particularly for any criticism of the CFA, was obvious.

It’s going to take some real focus from all political players to ensure this inquiry isn’t a massive waste of time for those who are trying to rebuild their lives.

The most important thing current councillors are trying to bring to Mitchell Shire is private investment. The state and federal governments are not providing the funds they once were.

Investment, jobs, prosperity leads to pride in our townships, lower crime and less social issues. It’s a proven formula.

It’s taken longer than I’d hoped, but MS now have an economic development department and the beginnings of a plan.

If you want to have a say, click below. Or catch up with council officers at Tastes of the Goulburn. Or at the Seymour Expo.

Do you have an idea to generate investment. Or are you an investor looking for guidance. Talk to us.

Mitchell Shire Council has released its draft Economic Development Strategy 2026–2030, and we want to hear from you. As Victoria's fastest growing municipality, Mitchell Shire is uniquely positioned to turn growth into real economic opportunity. Our proximity to

For anyone wondering how to help the region’s producers right now… get along to Tastes of the Goulburn.

A great event put on by volunteers, right in the main street of Seymour. For those in the south of the Shire, there is free public trains right to the entrance.

Please come along, we need you.

Back in June '25, you might recall my work with the Herald Sun and their journalist Grace Frost to get the repair works done on the Main Rd and also the Hume Freeway overpass bridges.

Both jobs started within days and have now been completed. Which was pretty amazing.

Although, the VicRoads work on the main road intersection is already starting to come away... time for a follow up.

It was nice to see our local member with new leader of the opposition Jess Wilson MP, listening to two issues this morning at Hilldene.

I’ve been a volunteer of the CFA for 29 years. Our brigade tanker is 36 years old. No one wants to be a member anymore and no one wants to risk their lives turning out in a vehicle that old. I asked- why is the state government directing all the funding away from the CFA and what are they going to do differently?

And while standing on the site of the new Hilldene Employment Precinct, it was a great opportunity to introduce Ms. Wilson to what could be the lifeline for jobs, training, economic development and keeping young people engaged locally. We discussed the need for the funding of connecting infrastructure and service provision to this precinct.

Thankyou for listening to Mitchell Shire

Seymour is the host to so many great events and Gravelista is no exception.

Was great to see them riding through and giving lots of waves to the kids.

Despite the tough conditions and a false alert that had CFA brigades from all around trying to get through the cyclists!, hopefully we see them back again. Well done to the organisers.
