This National Volunteer Week, we’d like to take a moment to recognise and thank the incredible volunteers who make up the Seymour Fire Brigade.

Our brigade is built on the dedication, commitment, and selflessness of local people who give up their time to protect and support our community. whether that’s responding to emergencies, attending training, supporting community events, or helping behind the scenes.

Your hard work does not go unnoticed, and we are grateful for everything you do.

Thank you to all our volunteers, past and present, for your service to Seymour and surrounding communities.

🚨 WE’VE HAD SOME GREAT INTEREST… NOW WE WANT YOU! 🚨

We’ve already had a few juniors put their hands up and they’re keen to get started - now’s the perfect time for your child to jump on board too!

If your child is aged 11–15 and looking for something different outside of the usual sports and after-school activities, the Seymour Fire Brigade Junior Program could be exactly what they’re looking for.

As a junior member they’ll have the opportunity to:
🔥 Learn new practical skills
🤝 Build confidence and teamwork
👨‍🚒 Meet new people and make great mates
🚒 Get involved with their local community

Our junior program is all about learning, development, and having fun in a supportive team environment.

⚠️ Junior members do not respond to emergency incidents. Training is focused on education, skill development, and introducing young people to brigade life in a safe and controlled setting.

If your child might be interested, apply today or better yet, come down and have a chat with our members to see what it’s all about!

Today, May 4th, we recognise International Firefighter’s Day 🚒❤️

International Firefighter’s Day is a time to recognise and thank firefighters here in our community, across Australia, and around the world for their courage, dedication, and commitment to protecting lives, property, and the environment.

Here in Victoria, this day carries deep significance as we remember the Linton bushfire incident of December 2, 1998, when five volunteer firefighters lost their lives while protecting their community near Linton. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten and serves as a powerful reminder of the risks firefighters face everyday while protecting their communities.

Today we honour all firefighters who have made the ultimate sacrifice and acknowledge the families, friends, and communities who stand beside them.

At Seymour Fire Brigade, we are proud to serve our community responding to emergencies, promoting fire safety, supporting local events, and training hard to ensure we are always ready when needed.

A heartfelt thank you to our dedicated volunteers who continue to give their time, commitment, and energy to helping keep our community safe.

Today, we encourage everyone to take a moment to recognise and thank firefighters everywhere.

We remember those we have lost, and thank those who continue to answer the call.

As the weather cools down, many of us are lighting candles to create warmth and comfort at home. Unfortunately, we’ve recently seen a rise in candle-related fire incidents, a timely reminder that candles should never be left unattended.

🕯️ Candle Safety Starts With You 🕯️

Candles may seem harmless, but they can quickly become dangerous if not used safely. A moment of distraction can lead to a devastating house fire.

Stay safe by following these simple tips:
🔥 Never leave a burning candle unattended
🔥 Always extinguish candles before leaving a room or going to bed
🔥 Keep candles at least 1 metre away from anything that can burn, including curtains, bedding, furniture and decorations
🔥 Place candles on a stable, heat-resistant surface
🔥 Keep candles out of reach of children and pets
🔥 Avoid placing candles near windows or draughts
🔥 Consider safer alternatives such as battery-operated LED candles

Working smoke alarms save lives.
Make sure your smoke alarms are installed, tested monthly, and have working batteries.

A house fire can take hold in minutes - but many are preventable.

Let’s work together to keep our homes and community safe this winter.

If in doubt, blow it out.

Today, members of Seymour Fire Brigade stood shoulder to shoulder with our community at the ANZAC Day ceremony, taking a moment to pause, reflect, and remember.

As the sun rose and silence fell across the nation, we honoured the courage, sacrifice, and unwavering spirit of the men and women who served our nation, those who returned, and those who never had the chance.

ANZAC Day is more than a date on the calendar. It’s a feeling. It’s the quiet pride, the deep respect, and the lasting gratitude we carry for those who gave so much so we could live the lives we do today.

Standing there, we are reminded that the values of mateship, resilience, and service are not just part of our history they live on in our community every single day.

We will remember their stories. We will honour their legacy. And we will never forget the sacrifices that shaped our nation.

Lest we forget.
