🌟Celebrating The OLR Way at Broken Bay Athletics Carnival

Yesterday several students participated in the Broken Bay Athletics Carnival held at the iconic Olympic Park.

While we often discuss the essence of “The OLR Way” and our motto, “Celebrating Community,” it’s rare to find a visual representation that encapsulates their meaning so profoundly without needing words.

Ace was competing in the 800m event and two of his best mates decided to give him a little extra support to get him over the line. Not only did he win but he also got a PB. Well done Ace!

Although this clip captures one example of The OLR Way, this mateship, camaraderie and pride was shown from all competitors yesterday and is visible at school each and every day. That’s the OLR Way.

A massive congratulations to all our athlete’s who competed yesterday. Be sure to check out the newsletter for some of the amazing results. 🌟

Book Week Spectacular at OLR!

📚✨ Dino, Grug, Cat in the Hat, and a multitude of minions swarmed the oval at OLR this morning for the annual Book Week Parade! It was a delightful sight as characters from all corners of the literary world came to life.

Mrs. Owens made a striking appearance as Cruella De Ville, surrounded by her Dalmatians who moonlight as teachers on a normal day. Their costumes were a hit and added to the festive spirit of the event.

This is one of our favourite days of the year as we come together to celebrate our love of all books and the joy they bring into our lives. It's a day to remember and honour the stories that ignite our imaginations and inspire our dreams. 📖❤️

Thank you to everyone who participated and made this year's parade a spectacular success! . Keep reading and let your imagination soar! 🥳🎉

On Wednesday, July 29th, we gathered to celebrate NAIDOC Week at Our Lady of the Rosary. This significant event was made even more special with the presence of Uncle Gavi Duncan, a highly respected local Elder. His visit was an enriching experience for everyone involved, as he generously shared his cultural knowledge and traditions.

Uncle Gavi began the day by performing a traditional smoking ceremony, offering our students and staff a profound cultural experience. He explained the importance of this practice, emphasising its role in cleansing and connection.
Further enriching our understanding, Uncle Gavi shared a captivating Dreaming story about the Milky Way constellation. He also taught the students a verse from his song, "Naiyi Nayawa," creating a memorable and interactive experience for all.

Our Indigenous students and families were invited to partake in a morning tea featuring traditional bushtucker treats. Thanks to the efforts of Jodie's daughter Maya and Kate in the canteen, the menu included wattle seed damper, lemon myrtle scones, and a variety of bushtucker-flavoured jams. These were beautifully complemented by lemon myrtle tea. For a sweet treat, students enjoyed wattle seed and Milo iced biscuits along with refreshing wild rosella slushies.

To conclude our celebrations, students engaged in a sand art activity. This creative exercise allowed them to express their reflections on the day and create a small artwork to commemorate the occasion.

A special thank you to Jodie our Aboriginal Education Worker for organising such a meaningful event for our whole school community.
NAIDOC Week holds profound significance as it celebrates the rich history, diverse cultures, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Through shared experiences, we hope to continue nurturing the respect and recognition that NAIDOC Week embodies.

Farewell to Mrs. Sawyer ❤️

On Friday, the community at Our Lady of the Rosary gathered together for a heartfelt farewell to Mrs. Sawyer, marking the end of her remarkable 13-year journey with our school. Her dedication and passion have left a lasting impact on both students and staff, making this farewell both a celebration and a bittersweet goodbye.

As Mrs. Sawyer embarks on her new adventure at St. Cecilia’s in Wyong, her new school is fortunate to gain such a dedicated and inspiring educator and leader. We are confident that she will continue to make a positive difference in her new role, just as she did at OLR.

We extend our warmest gratitude to Mrs. Sawyer for her years of service and wish her all the best in her new chapter at St. Cecilia’s Wyong.

NAIDOC Week - 5 -12 July

This week we celebrate NAIDOC Week, an opportunity to celebrate and recognise the histories, cultures, achievements, and enduring contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

This year's theme, Fifty Years of Deadly, celebrates five decades of strength, leadership, resilience, and community. It honours the Elders, advocates, artists, storytellers, and communities whose voices and vision continue to shape the future.

We invite our families to join in celebrating NAIDOC Week by attending local community events, listening to First Nations voices, and taking time to learn more about the stories, cultures, and histories that continue to shape our shared future.
